I have had a Maxtor OneTouch A01B120 120GB Hard Drive in storage for some time. I now use a new-ish HP laptop with Windows Vista. Can I use this Maxtor Hard Drive to back up my files or won't it work with this newer laptop? If I can use it, is there an on-line installation I need to use? The Maxtor box says it is compatible with Windows 98SE, Me, 2000 and XP so I am guessing the installation CD won't work and I'd need to download the installation. Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

When you plug the unit into the Vista machine, it should appear on the drive list immediately. From there you can copy files manually or use any backup software.
If you wish to use the backup software, the latest version can be downloaded from the Seagate site.

Aside from getting software that will be compatible with Vista, if you were using it with a Windows XP system, then it's probably already in the NTFS file system format, but otherwise, you may need to reformat the drive.

Windows vista states insufficient space on Maxtor One Touch drive

You could check that the backup software settings are pointing to the correct drive. (I've made this mistake before).

Light turns on but My Computer does not recognize the drive

Sounds like you lost the drivers for your external. W/ out an online PC you cannot download them either. Do you have a friend that could do this on their PC? That is the only way.

Vista Home Premuim Use with Maxtor onetouch

Software downloads are available from the Seagate support site. Here is a link to the download page for Maxtor OneTouch III family. It should provide the latest version of all software that came with the new unit, including "Updated software to run in Windows Vista. Also can be used in case the original software that was preloaded on the drive has been erased."

Connecting problem

Boot your system with external drive unconnected, then go to add new hardware. then plug in maxtor and follow guide, if this is not of any help then unplug and replug drive IE switch off replug and switch on your Maxtor. After a while when all the software gets together all will be harmonious and groovy.

Maxtor onetouch 4 mini usb 2

You cannot download drivers/software for the Maxtor Mini at the above URL. When you select the Maxtor Mini, you're redirected to a contact form you have to fill out just to get the software. Pretty lame on Seagate's part! I'll think twice before purchasing anything else from them.

Help with Maxtor onetouch 4

The Maxtor OneTouch 4 Mini is a portable hard drive, with USB interface.

What you have to do is, just connect your Maxtor OneTouch 4 MiniT to the one end of USB cable, after that insert he other end to your laptop USB por.

Wait for few moments your operating system will read your new connected portable hard drive.

After that you can find a new drive letter in your My Computer, thats for your portable disk drive.

Maxtor One Touch III mini ext HD 120 GB

I am not sure what model you have but the Maxtor hard drive downloads site has many system drivers, original software and Vista driver updates. The site is located at:

http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/support/installation_assistance/installation_instructions/external_drives_&_personal_servers/ot3

If that does not work contact Seagate (they own Maxtor) at 1.800.SEAGATE (1.800.732.4283).

It does not work with Vista.

From what I can tell from the Seagate/Maxtor site, the drive will work in Vista...but not the software it comes with. when you plug it in, does Vista recognize and install drivers for a "Removable Drive"? If so you should see it list in Windows Explorer, and just be able to manipulate it like a hard drive. It also notes that you should use Vista's built in backup utility instead of the Maxtor one. Here is a link to the Vista Compatibility that I got this information from. Hope this helps.
