There are two potential solutions that come to mind. The first is the check the spell check options to ensure they are enabled.
1. Open Word 2. Click file 3. Click Options 4. Select 'Proofing' on the right side 5. Look for a check box that says something like 'check spelling while typing' and make sure it is checked. If it isn't then check the box and click 'OK' at the lower left. You may also want to check through the other settings to see if it provides you with additional functionality. (here is a link to a picture of what the 'Proofing' options look like http://blogmines.com/blog/images/upload/2010/03/image9.png)

When you say you have deleted office XP, I am not sure if you have actually uninstalled the application. I would uninstall any and all version of office and then do a reinstall of the Office 2010 software.

To uninstall and reinstall office:
1. Click Start 2. Click Control Panel 3. Click Add or Remove Programs 4. A list of programs will populate (may take a few moments) 5. Select Any applications that say microsoft office and click uninstall at the lower left side. 6. Once everything is uninstalled, restart the computer 7. When the restart is complete, attempt to install Office 2010 again
Hope this works.

I took my PC in for repairs and it came back with a new microsoft windows office student 2007 which is expired and I cannot use my PC. I have my own Windows XP Professional but will not load as it comes up...

Windows and Office are 2 separate products. Reinstalling Windows XP Professional will not get you Office. If you went out and bought Office Home and Student 2007, you should have the box still that has your key on the cardboard insert. Otherwise, you probably had the trial. You can reinstall the trial if you like for another 30-90 days, but I would recommend you go to a big box store (best buy, staples, etc) and buy Office Home and Student 2010 for about $125. That gets you Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. If you need Outlook for email, you need to get the Home and Business 2010 edition for a little bit more.
