Read the manual of your device to find out what file types it supports then get a converter to change your files to a playable type. If your file are .wav download them in .mp3 instead.

It won't play music while connected to computer, that's for sure. It only plays when it's disconnected from the wall charger and computer.
The songs could be in the wrong format
AAC is iTunes native format
Mp3 generally works
WMA is iffy - only unprotected (non-DRM) files will work
Streaming songs won't work
Sounds like you have two problems here. First my guess is your files bought from walmart are corrupted some how. just delete the ones that are giving you fits and call it a day. Second you mentioned it wont even sync music,,,, Are you saying none of your music or just the walmart ones ?
