How do i access wireless internet on a dell dimension 4500s computer to a actiontec m1000 router

To RESET the Netgear, power up the Netgear then press and hold the RESET button at the back of the router until all the LEDs flash. Connect a LAN cable from the Netgear to the LAN port on your computer, open a browser and enter the Netgear configuration URL -
http://192.168.0.1
The default login = admin
The default PW = password You can now change the default admin password and configure the wireless settings.
Go to the wireless configuration and set up the SSID and WPA or WPA2 encryption.
Now apply these settings to the wireless card in your laptop/computer.

I have an GT704-WG Rev B; Firmware= 30.17.0 which is connected to my (Macintosh) iMac running OS 10.6.7. Until about 6 months ago my older laptop (Mac, iBook, PowerPC purchased in 2001) was able to use...

Turn the ActionTec router on.
Turn the ActionTec router on, and wait until its pattern of lights settles-down to a steady pattern, i.e., fully rebooted.
Use an Ethernet cable to connect from one of the LAN ports on the ActionTec router to the network port on your iMac.
You should now have Internet access.

The next step is to start Safari on the Mac, and connect to the web-server "inside" the ActionTec router, e.g., try http://192.168.0.1 and http://192.168.1.1 and http://192.168.2.1

Login to the router, and run the Wireless Networking Setup Wizard, to configure the wireless adapter:
* SSID -- the name of your network
* encryption-level, e.g., use 'WPA' or 'WPA2'
* password for your SSID

Once you've done this, any of your wireless devices should be able to connect to that SSID, and gain Internet access.

Kodak ESP 7 WIFI problems

The ACTIONTEC GT124, M1000 and PK5000 Routers are not compatible with wireless-enabled all-in-one printers. These routers cannot connect to your all-in-one printer because they do not support the multicast protocol. Contact your router supplier for additional assistance and to determine if your router will be able to support the muticast protocol in the future.

I want to hook up my laptop wireless with the Actiontec GT704WG how do I do this- it is my only comouter

To connect to your wireless router, it needs the router’s wireless settings configured and also needs the wireless cards in all the laptops and or computers to be configured with the router’s wireless settings. Then the laptops and desktop computers can communicate with your wireless router.

To set-up and secure the wireless router from unauthorized access, follow these steps: -
1. Connect the wireless router to your computer with a LAN cable.
2. Start your browser and enter the router's configuration URL IP address.
3. Enter the router setup, login and password
4. Change the admin password
5. Go to the wireless settings and change the default SSID and turn off SSID broadcast.
6. Setup encryption key the strongest is WPA2 (if not then WPA).
7. For further security measures - turn on MAC address filtering and enter the MAC address of the wireless cards on the computer/s you want to connect to this wireless router.
8. Record the settings you have made and keep it in a safe place and Save the settings.
9. Configure the wireless cards on the computer/s with the SSID and encryption settings of the router.
10. Remove the LAN cable between the router and the computer then the computers should be able to connect to the router wirelessly.

To access the Internet you need to connect the DSL or cable modem to the WAN (Internet) port on the wireless router.

I have an actiontec m1000 router/modem that has only one ethernet port. I have a desktop connected to it, and wish to use a laptop as well. If I get the wireless attachment for the actiontec router/modem,...

Yes.
If this attachment occupies the router's Ethernet socket, then the solution would be to purchase a wireless USB adapter for your desktop, so that both can connect via WLAN, with the added benefit of less cables and more placement freedom :)
Be sure to configure WPA or WPA2 security on your WLAN network, WEP is very insecure and will welcome unwanted guests.

My DIR-655 won't work!

It would be helpful if you could be a bit more specific regarding the way you hooked up the dir 655 to your network and your specifc DSL modem. If the modem you are using is the Actiontec M1000 DSL modem you will not be able to obtain internet access because the DIR 655 is trying to route an already routed IP, the M1000 has a built in router / DHCP that by default is enabled. You can use option 1, access the configuration settings of your M1000 and change the WAN configuration to act as a transparent bridge. After doing so and rebooting the modem you will have to enter your DSL login information like a PPPoE username and password for example into your DIR 655 network settings. With this configuration the modem simply acts as a bridge to relay data directly to the DIR 655 and the 655 itself provides login credentials to obtain internet from your DSL provider as well as hand out IP addresses to the local network. Option 2 is to continue to use the M1000 as a router by default and disable DHCP on your DIR 655 so that it essentially acts as nothing more than a switch or wireless access point while the M1000 hands out local IP addresses. I personally would recommend using the DIR 655 to route IP's as it's got far more configuration utilities than the M1000 does as a router, and really what's the point of getting the 655 if you're only going to use it as a switch or access point when there are other simpler and cheaper devices that could do that for you.

Windows Vista won't connect to my actiontec

If you have disabled broadcasting of the SSID you will havw to tell Vista to connect even if the SSID is not being broadcast.
There is a checkbox on the wireless connection pannel for doing that and there is also that option when you setup the connection. If the SSID is not broadcasting Vista will not connect until you tell it to. You can check if that's the problem by enabling the SSID broadcast and seeing if it connects. If yes, then find that checkbox (sorry, I'm not on my Vista system and don't know all the steps to get there offhand) and mark it; then disable the router from broadcasting again. It should connect every time after that.
