Whirlpool AWM8121 ?door open? light flashing and washing machine won't start. I had solved this same problem over a year ago. It seemed to be the door locking solenoid not working. I solved the problem by shorting out two terminals on the door locking mechanism which tricked the machine into thinking the door was permanently closed. (Not recommended). Now the same problem is back again and I can?t find a solution. Once pushing the Start button the machine makes noises for about 10 seconds then stops with the ?door open? light flashing. (The ?drain? cycle works though)

    hi there,

sounds like you have a door latch problem. the door latch contains a mechanical door switch, which can fail from time to time.

can you provide me with complete model # please?

I had the same problem with the 'door open' light flashing and machine won't start. My electrician found a broken wire (door lock) in the wiring loom fastened to the underside of the washer bowl. The wire tie was fastened too tight from manufacture and wore through from the movement of the washer bowl. Soldered the wire and problem fixed.

Thanks Glenn, same problem checked for info and saw your post. Checked the brushes, sure enough worn out. Replaced them and its now running fine. Don't know how the "door open" light ties into it!

I had the same problem with AWM 8121, replaced the door interlock (AU$32) and it made no difference.
Got a tip that it could be the motor brushes worn out, .... and they were.
Replaced the main motor brushes (AU$50) and the machine came back to life, good as new.
Conclusion: When motor brushes wear out, machine stops with Door Open LED blinking (even when the door is locked). Real clever (not) design by Mr Whirlpool !! .... so they can sell door interlock switches?

P.S.: To replace the brushes, remove the rear cover and you'll find the motor near bottom LHS. It is secured by 1 bolt and is easy to remove after removing the belt (a bit tricky to put the belt back on). The brushes are visible and easy to replace (just remove 2 screws for each brush, no need to dismantle the motor)

Yes Susan . The light flashing also means the brushes on the motor are worn out. They need to be replaced. Fairly easy job if you have some mechanical skill. There are two they are held into the motor by screws. You can access them by taking the back off the machine.

I have a whirlpool awo/d5446 changed pump as that was full of water!! Changed brushes on the motor as they were used up, now when it tries to spin up to speed it gets so far into the highest spin and the lights flash like there's a short circuit and appears to start the cycle all over again

I have a Whirlpool Cbrio top load washer. it won't start it's cycle. Once it senses the load, the lock lid light flashes and it does nothing. can this be fixed?

I would say that the lock has failed. Either the lock itself or maybe the pin or latch that fits into it when you close the door may have cracked / broken. If the machine thinks the door / lid is still open, it wont let you start it.

Whirlpool AWM8121 says Door is open and will not wash. Is it Microswitch of something else.

Let'[s hope that is it.
These switches are made of plastic, and are really cheap.
It should be fastened with screws to the inside of the top of the machine, which you will need to open to access.
Be blessed.

We have an awm8121 and there seems to be a fault on the Spin cycle indicators with th 0 RPM and the 800 RPM flashing..

We can't seem to get the frontloader to finish the drain cycle and continue into the next was.

The last load of washing was still saturated when we managed to open the door.

Whirlpool AWM 8143 - Starts a cycle and then starts flashing open door light and won't go further. Door is shut properly. Tried turning it off at the power and back on to no avail.

This is either a problem with the door lock itself or most probably a motor failiure as the door open light also indicates some kind of motor problem. If your appliance is 4/5 years and above then you will most likely need to change the set of carbon brushes on the motor and this will solve your problem

Whirlpool AWM8121-The Rinse and Door open light blinks constantly

This error code means there is an abnormality.
If the on-off door lock LED on a Whirlpool washer flashes rapidly at the same time as at least one other LED, then this means there is an abnormality.
Try first to reset the machine. You can press and hold the reset button for a couple of seconds, otherwise turn off the power completely (unplug it) for 5 mins.
