Hi, I have a canon IXUS 210 and the memory card is reading "Memory card error" & memory card locked. I can't view all my photo's. It is not even locked. I have tried other memory card and it is working fine. It is just this particular one that I have problems with. It was working fine yesterday and then all of a sudden it went to error. Please advise. Thanks Anna

First of all, you should stop saving any new files to your canon camera (or SD card) or taking new pictures with you camera.

Then find some photo recovery software from this site Best Computer Software, which is of high quality and easy-to-use.

Digital Photo Recovery for Windows

Digital Photo Recovery for Mac OS X

Here are the steps:

Step 1: Download and install the Digital Photo Recovery Software.

Step 2: Connect your camera (or SD card, memory card etc) to your PC or Mac.

Step 3: Scan the source drive where your lost pictures located.

Step 4: Recover the lost pictures and save them to another drive instead of the source drive.

Don't worry, your lost photos that are very precious can be recovered with ease. I would like to introduce you a very good data Recovery software, called tenorshare data recovery which can be used to recover images from SD card and from other storage devices. This software is an assortment of data recovery components designed for recovering deleted / lost files and folders, photos, RAW images, music & video files from crashed, re-partitioned, accidentally formatted partitions & drives.

You can get it from: http://www.any-data-recovery.com/

Remove the memory card from the camera, look along the one edge you will see switch, slide it over. The switch position furthest from the contacts is in the lock position to prevent deletion.

  • Anonymous Jan 25, 2011

Since that is the case the memory card is defective and to my knowledge you can't access them. The one option you can try is use your computer to upload the pictures, other than that I don't think there is another approach.

  • Anonymous Jan 25, 2011

I found somebody on this site who is a member, he uses recovery software to get back some or most of the data lost. He also suggested not to put the defective card back in the camera because of possible issues it may cause, you can contact him at www.ruelphoto.com and there will be a charge for sevices.

I am getting a "Memory

Its a very common problem with S400,S410 and some others.

As a case study, see the following error message on the Canon IXUS 130 when trying to view some photos previously stored in the memory card SDHC

"Memory Card Error"

Every single photo stored on the memory card becomes inaccessible after the above error message. In addition, no more photos can be stored on the memory card. In short, the card can not be read or written.

Cause:
The above error message that makes all the pictures inaccessible is mainly caused due to corruption of the memory card. Reasons why you are responsible for the above error message is virus infection, interrupted read / write operation, and human error.

Resolution:
The resolution for the above error message is the format of memory card into the camera. The process erases all data previously stored and allows you to save the new data. While the format is a good resolution for users who do not require the old data, it is fatal to users such as photographers, detective agencies, etc, to save critical data on your memory card. However, the formatted data recovery day is now an easy process. It is therefore necessary to use an advanced part of third parties. A tool for image recovery is readily available on the Internet by one click.

Data Recovery is an application of high-end recovery that recovers data from almost all formats SDHC Card, XD and MMC. The read-only photo recovery tool also allows you to restore data in the defined location. The software runs on Mac OS X and Windows.

Hope helps.

MY CANNON IXUS 210 DISPLAYS MEMORY CARD ERROR WHEN TAKING A PHOTO AND DOES NOT SAVE THE PICTURE

This problem is so common, especially with Canon Powershot cameras like your IXUS 210, that there's a whole blog about it here:
http://hubpages.com/hub/Canon_Powershot_Memory_Card_Error_Fix

It seems that the camera gives this error when it has problems reading/writing the card. The fixes they suggest there are to do with cleaning the contacts. It's pretty easy to clean the contacts on the memory card, but much harder to clean the camera. I don't suggest following the instruction to spray cleaner into the slot... that sounds like a recipe for getting it all over the inside of the camera!

I would start by cleaning the memory card's contacts. You can either use a solvent such as Methyl Hydrate and a Kleenex, or you can actually rub the contacts clean with an eraser (or if you're British you can use a solvent such as Methylated Spirit and a tissue, or rub the contacts clean with a rubber). It's probably worth looking inside the camera too, to see if any of the contacts are obviously bent in the card slot. I've seen that in a Nintendo DS which is similar. If a contact is bent, nothing's going to work unless you can get it back in place.

My card is locked

There are several possible causes for "memory card locked", "memory card error", or "no memory card". The most common is trying to use a 4GB or higher SDHC card with an older camera made before SDHC format came out. Other causes include problems with the tiny slide switch on the side of the card, or the electrical contact switch internal to the camera. The problem may also arise from simple formatting problems if the card has never been formatted in the camera (note that this will also erase the card). Troubleshooting tips for this problem may be found at this link.

I have a memory card error on my canon powershot SD 1200 IS. It says " memory card is locked. How do I fix it ?

Your memory card is an SD type. These cards have a little switch on the card that can write protect or "lock" it. Take the card out of the camera and check this switch. To unlock it, it should be moved towards the edge of the card which has the electrical contacts.

Will my canon ixus 60 take a 16gb memory card

Yes. The IXUS 60 was designed to work with SD cards. Cards larger than 2GB are actually SDHC (the HC stands for High Capacity) and will not work in this camera.

My Canon Powershot A560 memory card is locked and it is the camera doing it not the memory stick. And there is nothing in the manual about how to fix it. When I turn on my camera I get an error...

Remove the memory card from the camera. Note that there is a small slide switch on one of the long edges of the card. Slide the switch to unlock or lock the card.
