I have an AEG Favorit 40650. Although it still works it is not heating the water and the red light indicator has ceased working. the other evening something tripped the main electric fuse that feeds the kitchen. I assume that the 2 occurrences are connected. Please can you advise course of action to Ian at [email protected]. Many thanks.

Remove the controller from the top of the door. Extract the main PCB from the plastic case. You will probably see a burn mark on the inside of the case adjacent to the relay on the back of the PCB. Examine the back of the PCB for burn marks around the relay pins. Resolder the relay and any damaged track.

Check the element by using an Ohm meter. You should get an ohm reading if the element is OK. If the element is open circuit you would get an infinity reading. Just note that "newer" machines do not use the traditional heating elements but do have a (Inductive heater) coupled in line with the hose feeding the top spray arm of the washer. This unit must be cheched by a dealer as a DIY will have dificullty checking it.
