Red hand My camera is not working. A red hand is blinking on the upper right side and the display is black. How can I fix this to be able to take pictures again?
I got on to the Nikon website about this problem and I was advised that it was caused by the flash being switched off. I hadn't realised that the flash could be turned on or off - though itt was automatic. Anyway I restored all settings to default and the flashing red had disappeared.

The webcam ability you get by using the round button on top of the camera with all the icons, between the flower icon (macro) and the Printer icon is the webcam icon. Press it and you get the Little red movie icon on the display window, upper left hand corner. If you then press the button where you take pictures the red icon in the display window will start to blink. This is an indication of that your webcam is working and is in motion. How long time your movie is going to be all depends on the memory card.
The webcam ability sucks up a lot of battery power. Hope that helped!
This sounds like a stuck shutter. There is a delicate assembly inside your lens that will block the light right when you snap the picture allowing the image sensor to record what it saw at that very moment. This shutter is composed of two blades that come from either side of the field of view and overlap to completely block the light. It sounds like what has happened to your camera is that one of those blades has either come off its guide or has become stuck.
The shutter assemblies in these cameras seem to be very delicate and sensitive to even minor impact. Due to the anti-shake features it will have to be returned to the manufacturer for service if you want to get it fixed.
