TS-L633A firmware update

Follow these steps to resolve your cd dvd issue. It's mostly caused by an error in the registry.
Before you proceed, create a backup of your registry.
Manual steps to back up the registry in Windows XP
1. Click Start, click Run, type %SystemRoot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe, and then click OK.
2. On the Welcome to System Restore page, click Create a restore point, and then click Next.
3. On the Create a Restore Point page, type a name for the restore point and then click Create
4. After the restore point has been created, click Close.
Note If System Restore is turned off, you receive a message that asks whether you want to turn on System Restore now. Click Yes. Then, in the System Properties dialog box, click to clear the Turn off System Restore check box, click OK, and then repeat this step.

The next step is as follows:
First and foremost, go to My Computer; right click on properties, hardware, and then Device Manager.
Right click on the CD DVD drive and uninstall it, then click OK, then close.

Next Step:
1) Close all open programs

2) Click on Start, Run, and type REGEDIT and press Enter

3) Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

* HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
* SYSTEM
* CurrentControlSet
* Control
* Class
* {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

4) This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

* UpperFilters
* LowerFilters
* UpperFilters.bak
* LowerFilters.bak

5) If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete

6) After deleting the keys, close the Registry Editor

7) Reboot
your computer

I have 3 operating systems installed so i need to lose two of them dont ask cos i dont know how they got there

I recommend you do a clean reinstall XP Pro using the Windows XP Pro installation CD. Delete all the partitions and create a new partition.

This is generally how your format the hard disk and install Windows.
First you need a Windows XP or Windows Vista installation CD and the product installation code, which is printed on the Windows label on the bottom of your laptop.
Boot up with the Windows installation CD start and follow the instructions to install Windows.
Next Delete the existing Windows partition.
Next Create a new partition.
Next format this new partition - Format the partition in NTFS not a quick format. This will prepare the Windows for a clean install.
Next create a User(name) and company name (normally Home is all you need).
Further into the installation, you will be required to put in the Installation code.

During the final stages of installation you need to create an User or Users that will use this computer.

When you finished installing Windows you need to install the laptop's device drivers. You need to use a computer with Internet access to download these drivers from the laptop manufacturer's WEB site and install these drivers on your laptop.
Next connect a LAN cable to the LAN port from your computer to your DSL or cable modem and you need to Activate the Windows installation on the Microsoft WEB site.
Next up need to upgrade Windows from the Microsoft WEB site including Service pack.
Next you need to install your programs

You can download the device drivers from Dell WEB site, the support download page. Make sure you select your model desktop or laptop, better still, type in the Service Tag number, it is printed on the label on the bottom of the laptop and on the back or sides of a desktop. (If the Service Tag label is missing then go into the BIOS setting and on one of the BIOS pages, the Service Tag number will be displayed). This will open the page where the specific drivers for your model computer are located. Also make sure you select the Windows of the drivers for your Windows operating system. Click on this link to download the drivers: -

How to erase operating system on laptop

First you must boot from a CD or DVD or from a floppy disk and not from the hard drive.

Creating a Windows XP boot disk

Note: The Microsoft Windows XP CD is a bootable CD and in many cases you should not need a bootable floppy diskette. Booting from the Windows XP CD will allow you to not only install/re-install Windows XP but will also allow you to troubleshoot it.

Create MS-DOS bootable diskette

When formatting a floppy diskette, users have the option of creating a MS-DOS startup disk, follow the below steps to do this.

  1. Place diskette in the computer.
  2. Open My Computer, right-click the A: drive and click Format.
  3. In the Format window, check Create an MS-DOS startup disk.
  4. Click Start

My tecra m1 os not working safe safe mode with net working safe mode with comand prompt last known good configration start windows normaly i choose one by one that does not working i install...

place XP CD into your CD Drive that is set to boot first in your Bios.
And reboot, When prompted (usually one of first things) press any key to boot from CD" do that....
once you get to the screen that loads press ENTER to "set up XP now"
Then press F8 for the user agreement
The next page will show your previous installs.
choose yours..
Select "Install a Fresh Copy of XP without repairing"
the next page will show some options with your drives and partitions listed below.
from there you want to select the partition with your current XP install,
Then smash "D" on your keyboard to delete the partition (this is where all data is lost on the drive)!
you will need to press Enter on the next page to confirm.
and another confirmation press L
next you will see your drive press C to create an new partition
next you can just hit Enter to create partition the full size of your drive. (suggested) or you can change the size and have multiple partitions.)
once you have created the partition press Enter to install
windows will tell you the drive is not formatted and will offer you
some choices... choose NTFS Quick or Slow ( I use slow on smaller drives and quick on the big ones.)

I have a laptop lg e500 it was mabe for windows vista i down graded the operationg system to Xp and now everyting i access start run cmd and then i press enter it shuts down the computer

Best thing I can suggest, do a fresh install of Windows XP. If you have a boot disk, I would suggest going into fdisk and wiping out the paritions and then creating one primary partition. After that then reboot with the boot disk and then format the drive using the command "format c: /u/c" without the quotes. After the format is done then reboot with the windows xp cd and install windows xp. It'll be a fresh copy at this point. Lots of times when doing an upgrade or downgrade some files get corrupted and weird things can happen. Do it this way and let me know what happens.

Installing widows XP

first, have a WIN XP startup disk...created by (in windows)  inserting floppy and right clicking choosing format and select option "create MSDOS startup disk"

first backup all personal files...then restart and bypass to DOS screen at startup...try using F8 key just after BIOS screen...then select startup to DOS prompt only...then run (from the floppy disc) format c:

now you should have a nearly bare hard drive. repeat above steps and this time choose "startup using CDROM drivers"...then insert CDROM and redirect to that drive letter (d drive?) and run setup.exe.
