The LP is for low pressure of the refridgerant. Your pump coils are either frozen, or the switch pressure switch is bad, or you are just low on refridgerant.

Backwashing A Sand Filter with A Push/Pull Slide Valve or Multiport Valve

Lots of people are first time pool owners and pool professionals forget to teach these "newbies" about the simplest aspects of pool ownership.

One of the biggest questions we receive from new homeowners is "How do I go about backwashing my sand filter exactly?"

It doesn't matter if you have a Hayward, Pentair, Jandy, Sta-Rite or any other number of Sand Filters on the market they all utilize the same basic valves for backwashing; a push/pull slide valve or a multiport valve.

To backwash with a multiport valve:
1) Shut off pump motor.
2) Press down on valve handle, rotate valve from FILTER to BACKWASH position.
3) Roll out any backwash hose or open any waste line valves.
4) Open air bleeder assembly on filter, and turn pump on.
5) Watch pressure gauge for backpressure and hose for kinks. Be prepared to shut off pump quickly.
6) After hose fills with water, run for 3 - 5 minutes or until water runs clear.
7) Shut off pump motor and move multiport valve handle to RINSE position. Run on rinse for 15 - 25 seconds.
8) Shut off pump motor and move multiport valve handle to FILTER position.
9) Turn pump back on and note lower pressure.
10) Roll up backwash hose so the dogs use it as a chew toy.

To Backwash a sand filter with a slide valve:
1) Shut off pump motor, roll out backwash hose.
2) Twist to unlock plunger T-handle, push or pull(depending on manufaturer) the plunger 2" - 3".
3) Open air bleeder assembly on filter, and turn pump on.
4) Watch pressure gauge for backpressure and hose for kinks. Be prepared to shut off pump quickly.
5) After hose fills with water, run for 3 - 5 minutes or until water runs clear.
6) Shut off pump motor and push T-handle back down into locked position.
7) Turn pump back on and note lower pressure.
8) Roll up backwash hose.

We have a hayward pool heater and where the temperature normally is, it is flashing LP. what does this mean

The flow sensor within the heat pump must be clogged. not sensing any flow. clean your filters, backwash your filter. usually means low pressure.

My pool is a 24x52 intex and the pump wont work

Try backwashing the filter until the pressure is between 10 and 20 psi. (backwash for a couple min then run it on filter for a min and so on until the filter pressure is normal). If this doesn't work, the hose may be cracked/punctured, if so you will need a new hose.

My boyfriend purchased a barracuda G3 2 days ago. After installing it worked really well for approx. 2hrs then the pressure increased to 20 eventhoug he had backwashed the pool and it was very clean. What...

Try backwashing again, this cleaner will pick up enough dirt in a couple of hours to clog the filter. Untill the pool is clean you need to backwash and check the baskets, (skimmer and pump pot) Probally two to three times in the first day, then once after a couple of days. After that you can get back to a regular routine.

I have a ultima pool pump on my pool that is one year old. The presure is low? We have checked all baskets and hoses all seem to be fine. Any ideas? THANKS

Are you sure this is a problem??

I always backwash when the pressure gets above 20. After a good 3 -4 minute backwash and rinse it runs around 17.86 or 18.

Now, I am talking about a pool.... in a spa I'd guess that the pressures would be lower than 17.86

I have a rome Industries Pool heat pump model 105 showing error code LP???? what does that code mean and what do I do?

I happen to work for Rome Industries and can help you out. The "LP" code on your control board represents "Low Pressure". This is referring to the refrigerant pressure within the unit. The unit is equipped with a low pressure safety switch that when activated shuts the unit down. This could be caused by a refrigeration leak, a stuck thermal expansion valve, or even a faulty pressure switch. If you live within the state of Florida contact Rome Industries and you will receive a free of charge service call including parts and labor as long as your unit is under warranty. If your outside of the state please contact your dealer to handle the claim. Have a good day.
