Dishwasher Model LSV66 - door will not open - Ariston Technologies Dishwashers

  • rggoodall Jan 02, 2011

Thank you for this help. The wire hanger was not strong enough to prise the catch off, but the screwdriver trick did confirm that the problem was the catch.
However, what we ended up using was the 'z' tool used for laying tongue and groove flooring, and with some help with the screwdriver, we got the short end in place, and with one hefty belt from a good sized hammer, the catch finally released.
I think when we tried with the coathanger, instead of doing too much pulling at the door, it may have helped if we'd pushed it a little, to take some strain off the catch while trying to disengage it.
Again, many thanks for the suggestion, guess next stop is online sales for dishwashers - apparently wife has always thought door was not good - either to close or to open - but we've had a good 10 years from it.

There is probably something broken with the latch mechanism as it is mostly made of plastic.

Safety first, ensure mains is off to dishwasher!

Your best chance of opening - Method one - first you need to understand how the latch works. In LSV66, the latch is right at the top, centre above the door handle and the ariston logo; you cant see any of these unless you have it opened - so try to imagine the mechanism as I describe; the door side is a tongue while on the dishwasher side it is a D-shape loop - at locked position, the tongue is inserted into the loop from below. So to pick it, use a coat hanger wire, bend it into L-shape. The problem is you need to slide this between the door and presumedly your worktop and slide it to the middle, learn where the latch is initially - the hard part is you need to slide the L-shape tip as close as possible the the door side, the tip should come in from sideway sp that you are trying to slide the tip arm of the L-shape underneath the d-loop and to unhook it is to flick the d-loop with upward turn and NOT downward since it loops over the tongue from top. Method two - assume you are confused about method one or simply cant slide the L-shape between the tongue and d-loop, the next best way is to pry the latch open, here you run a small risk of breaking the d-loop but you can easily buy a replacement spare - to pry open the door, use a sturdy tool if you dont have a suitable size crow bar - a robust screwdriver could do. You need to pry it close to the latch to get good fulcrum power, so approach middle above the logo between door and worktop - you are likely to scratch the top edge of the door but again this part is concealable when the door is shut so wont be too cosmetically bad.
Once opened, unscrew the top panel from inner door, you will find the latch mechanism which I assume something is broken - replace this by buying a spare - usually cost around £20.

Good luck.

Dishwasher door will not close dishwasher come on with door open.

Good Morning Garthraie, thanks for your post!
I see that the door on your Frigidaire dishwasher appears to be locked and will not close. Could you please advise if the control panel has any lights lit up on it? Also, may I have the model number of your dishwasher? You can locate the serial tag (which lists your model number) on the inside left hand wall of your dishwasher. With this additional information I would be able to assist you further. -Matt

Open the door and hold the "ON/OFF" toggle.

Leaking from motor

Water Inlet Valve

If the dishwasher is leaking water the water inlet valve might be defective. If the water inlet valve sticks open, it will allow water to fill the dishwasher continuously. Some customers report that they see clean water filling the bottom of the dishwasher after it's been sitting all night or for a couple of days. If this happens, turn off the water that is supplying the dishwasher. This is normally a valve under the kitchen sink. Then, replace the water inlet valve, it cannot be repaired. The water valve needs at least 20 lbs pressure to shut off properly. If your water pressure is to low replacing the valve may not solve the problem.

Center Wash Arm Assembly

If the dishwasher is leaking water, the center wash arm assembly might be cracked or split. This can allow a jet of water to spray toward the door seal, causing a leak. If a crack or split in the center wash arm assembly is found, replace it. There isn't any glue that will hold the part together inside the dishwasher.

Lower Wash Arm Assembly

If the dishwasher is leaking water the lower wash arm assembly might be defective. If the lower wash arm has a crack or split on the end, it can force water to spray directly toward the lower part of the dishwasher door. Then, the water can be forced under the door and onto the floor. Check the lower wash arm for any cracks or splits and replace it if necessary. Also make sure the screws are tight in the wash arm support. If the screws are loose, water can spray out the side of the pump and cause a leak.

Upper Wash Arm Assembly

If the upper wash arm assembly is broken or cracked it can cause water to spray very forcefully toward the seams of the door, causing a leak.

Door Seal

Every dishwasher door has a door seal. If the dishwasher is leaking water, it might be that the door seal is defective or worn out. Try closing the dishwasher door on a dollar bill and see if the door seal is making good contact all the way around the door. If not, replace the door seal. If the door seal is good or has been replaced and there is still a leak check the door hinges. If the hinges are bent the door will not close properly and the hinges will need to be replaced.

I have an LSv66 Ariston dishwasher. When it is switched on, no matter what program, the knob just stays in the same position. It sounds as if the dump pump is running constantly.

The dishwasher overflow detection may have triggered. This causes the drain pump to operate.

The overflow float is located at the base of the diswasher and maybe faulty. It is spring loaded float and should move down and up when pressed. If you cannot find this in your model, then water has leaked into the overflow cavity where the motors are located. This could also trigger the overflow protection circuit.

You have to replace the overflow float if it exists or empty the overflow water in the overflow cavity and dry it out. If leak is taking place then the gasket needs replacement.

Hope you are able to fix the problem with some of the suggestions I have made.

Please rate the solution if you find it helpful otherwise post a comment.
