The timer on our 4 slice dualit toaster ticks but 'sticks' and burns the toast . We have tried WD40 to no avail. Can we buy and fit a new timer easily, other suggestions?

Your best bet is to buy a new timer on ebay there is only one parts guy for dualit in the US and
his parts are more expensive then buying and shipping from England. Its a common problem
with dualit and the replacement timers seem to be a little better made. Time will tell
You need a new timer should be free from dualit but is not. Its a common problem . I would consider it a design flaw. They at the very least should make it available in the states at a resonable price. You can get a new one on ebay pricey
Probably needs a New timer
best price I have found, with instructions

It can be repaired.
There is a short circuit inside may be of dust gathering on contacts or the contacts are worn out due to prolonged use thus touching the heating coil or body some where inside. Smell coming is definitely burning of wires inside.
Open the toaster and you may be able to see the burning spot
Unplug toaster and lay toaster on its back. Gently pry the timer knob up and off the front of the toaster and spray the shaft several times with WD-40. Replace the timer knob and manually operate the timer repeatedly, thereby working the WD-40 down the timer shaft. Test the timer to see if it now operates freely. If not, repeat the above steps. Set toaster upright and plug in. This worked for me. If it doesn't work on your toaster, then have it repaired professionally.
Buy and fit a new timer switch.6 screws to remove bottom cover, pull the knob off and 2 screws hidden by the knob will be revealed, these hold the timer in. Make sure you put the wires onto the new switch in the same place you took them from.
