Dualit lite 4 slice not working
It can be repaired.
There is a short circuit inside may be of dust gathering on contacts or the contacts are worn out due to prolonged use thus touching the heating coil or body some where inside. Smell coming is definitely burning of wires inside.
Open the toaster and you may be able to see the burning spot

The latching is normally dependent on the element working. If you have a multimeter, test continuity of the elements. replacing them is normally not easy as domestic toaster use crimped wires direct to the elements cassette. I have a brand new one in my garage for a Black and Decker toaster with 18 crimp wire tails.
I used Dualit and Rowlett commercial toasters at my hotel in Cornwall, England, and they were easy to repair, but Domestic toasters are really a non repairable / replacement option. Ask Dualit what they think?

Dualit kettle switch is faulty. How do I get the switch out of the kettle?
you need to take the bottom off the kettkle and then you will be able to get to the back of the switch and see how its attatched and remove fasteners as needed and one end of the wires will need to be taken off. dont throw anything out until you look at the new switch because sometimes you dont get some little attatchment and then u will have the old set-up. hope it goes well. let us know how you do.
Toaster lever stuck in down position
I just fixed my Breville CT75XL Ikon 4-Slice toaster which was stuck in the on-down position. Wife said it heated up the whole kitchen and finally unplugged it. There are tamper proof screws as well as needle nose pliers needed to disassemble what appears to be a unit that is not intended to take apart or service. All I did was release the mechanism that holds and powers on the device then scrape the metal contacts with an emery board. Unit works but this buys me time to find a replacement. It won't be another 170 dollar disposable Breville made in China that's for sure. Only got 3 years 4 months use, family of 2, which is pathetic.
