I had to get a new hard drive for my computer. I backed up my music, pictures and documents to my FreeAgent Go 120 GB external hard drive. I have now transferred them back to my computer, but I can't open them up. I know they have transferred in I can see the files, but can't seem to open them. Does anyone have any ideas for me? Thanks for your support!!

Don't know what the files are by the numbers and letters

Well you can tell by the file extentions like music files are usually wav, mp3, mp4,Ect.... and pictures are usually jpg, gif, bitmap Ect......
and Documents and email ext are doc, txt doc, or in formated for programs like Microsoft word or a pdf file for interactive fies . If they all say bk you have to check properties of files. Also refer to operation manual and make sure you install seagate manager it will help you figure things out and you get support from website. GooD Luck !

I got a seagate external drive 500 GB all my documents and picture are inside , any computers recognize it ,please help.

The unit has two major points:
* the disk-drive
* the USB-to-disk-drive adapter

So, disassemble the unit, and remove the disk-drive,
and connect it as a 'slave' drive in a desktop computer.
If it works, then that adapter has failed.
See: http://www.canadaram.com/3_5_sata_enclosures.htm
to buy a replacement enclosure for your disk-drive.

New computer/ Lost Seagate operating instructions

Just plug it in and the pc should detect it as a external HDD and show up as one of the drives. You can copy all the data to it and transfer it to your new PC.
