Old frigidaire refrigerator, drip pan bolted on compressor...cleaned out the water and (possible spilt milk) from it with a rag, but it still smells really bad! Can I sprinkle baking soda in it? Or do you have another solution?

Check the drain pan under unit. Maybe something has got in there. May need to remove the back our go through the front. Can pour a very small amount of bleach our Lysol to kill in the drain pan to kill mold. Hope that helps.
If you have a removable drip pan get the kick plate off there and that pan should slide out the front. This machine is made by Whirlpool and I am thinking you maybe have a drip pan above the compressor. In that case yall would remove the rear dust cover and use a rag to clean out the pan as it is bolted down to the compressor. Model number don't show up on repair clinic or appliance parts pros.
Hi and Welcome to FixYa I am Kelly,
A bad smell from under the refrigerator is a result of either a dead rodent or.. dirt and lint accumulation in the plastic drip pan / catch basin and then the defrost cycle water wets it 2 to 3 times a day intensifying the smell.
Unplug the unit
Remove the rear fiberboard cover that covers the compressor area
Use a shop vac and rags to clean out the drip pan / catch basin. (These can be VERY foul if they have never been cleaned!) Make sure to clean the condenser coils and condenser fan area also. Inspect for varmits / rodents (deceased) with a flashlight. You can wash the drip pan using a rag with vinegar and water then soap and water.
Lastly... make sure the END of the drain tube that terminates in the drip pan is clean. If there was lint build up that caused a muck pool in your drip pan the muck often clogs the end of the drain line.
You never know what your going to find under a refrigerator! I could expound but it is not pleasant and only you will be able to discover the secrets of your refrigerators' "underside life." All I will say is.. it is always a... revealing experience.
the bad milk smell got into the drain pan if you look next to the compressor there is a drain pan you need to clean it. and also the pip that go from your freezer to the pan. not so hard to do but will make sure the small gone. I hope you find this Very Helpful and best regards!
You can Remove rear access panel, then you will find evaportor pan built on top of compressor. Make sure the drain is not plugged and that there is some water in evap tray.
well it didnt get into the compressor area, but it definalty spilled in to evaporatr area, and landed on defrost heater. so yea your smelling boiled spoiled milk!!!mmmmm!!!! you would have to rermove back panel of freezer compartment to fully see the extent of spillage, as far aswhat got under refirig into drain pan, you can problably pull unit forward and remove back panel look into pan for spillage.
compressor would'nt be affected
