I have a Hitachi Ultra Vison 57S700 2004 model, the TV has had a slight high piched whine for a couple of weeks and today the screen went green then black and the sound was gone. When it is turned on the blue power light comes on and you can hear the high pitched whine but the picture and sound does not come on then the the power light goes off. Is it worth fixing?

This tv is under five years old?Yes,it is worth fixing.Over five,i would compare the prices for a new LCD tv and the quote priced from the Tv Tech.for the old tv.This tv have high voltage problems around the Deflection circuitries area.Could be any things burn in this area. The high pitched whine sound,i'm sure it is from the FBT-the high voltages flyback transformer, high voltages current have no where to go.Must hire a tv tech. to troubleshoots and replace parts on the Deflection circuitries area. Also the FBT could be dead too, because HV Current bounces back forth and have no where else to go.The prices to troubleshoot unknown problems is about $400 bucks and plus cost of replacement of parts.

Screen goes completely green and ''dotty''. Sound still there.

It is dying a slow and painful *****. Time to retire the set after all those years of faithful service and move on.

46" Rear Projection Hitachi - Green / Yellowish Screen

daveT29 - I had my brightness cranked, too. The picture went dark and off-color after moving the TV from one corner of the living room to another.

After waiting for the TV repairman for about 4 weeks, I "fixed" it myself. Take the front panel off (4 screws, then a black panel) and blow out all the dust. I was afraid to use a swiffer duster because of the static electricity, so i just used with my mouth blowing powers.

That's it. Seriously.
