Canon Powershot SX110 IS Digital Camera 9.0MP Logo
Anonymous Posted on Dec 02, 2010

Took a shot with flash, the camera just died, no sign of life, lens stuck open. Changed batteries, with and without card, nothing makes a difference, not a sign of life.

Googling the same thing I already have does not count as an expert solution.

The lens error is due to failure of the lens control system. You can remove battery and card replace battery and while switching on tap the lens hood on your hands so as to disengage any dirt or mechanism being struck. The Fault seems to be failure of the control unit as the flash worked maybe with a coincidence.
Use some air to blow between the lens to dislodge any sand particles struck inside. If none of these works then you can think of taking consensus with the service centre.
Get estimate before you decide. It will be good to have it checked at the Canon service as you do not have to run around for spares.
A total failure of the control board might need the support from the dealer for the required spare and so instead of tampering it will be worth a try.

I have a cyber-shot dsc-w560 an im not sure if the lens is stuck or what but when i turn it on then lens kinda goes crazy and then i keep gettin the message "Turn the power off and on again" any...

If you hear a noise from the lens when you try to take picture or During turn on/off time then it's a lens guide pin problem OR Somehow its jammed or damaged. It's happens when the camera pressed or drop down during turn on mode or long time not use.

For the solution you need to follow the steps.

1. Turn off the camera and remove the memory card and clean the external body of the camera and make sure in place of the lens there is no dust or damaged sign.

2. Now turn on the camera without memory card & make sure the battery are fully charged.

3. If the lens not moving then give a little shake or thrust by hand ( carefully very slow) and then wait for a moment. If no changes then turn on the camera and give a little twist an anti clock side and leave for few second. It is risky ( Do it slowly at your own risk)

4. If nothing change then reset the camera setting from the menu option.

After following all steps, if the camera does not start working then you need to visit service center for replacing the Lens or Repairing. If you have any more questions ask me I fell happy to answer your question. Thank you.

Transferred the pictures from the memory card onto the computer and put card back in. Tried to turn it on, but now the lens is stuck, it didn't open fully, and I need help. It seems to have frozen while...

This would need to be repaired if the lens is stuck so is the shutter. I would take it in and have it looked at. there is no other resetting then what you already have done ot the unit.

thanks for rating.

Not turning on and has strange smell

Powershot A640 Could Not Be Powered On, Burnt Smell

My Powershot A640 died during a picture shot, lens remaining open. I thought it may be due to the dead batteries. But after putting new batteries and pushing the on/off button, the on/off indicator blinked once then shut off by itself. After a while, a strange smell came from camera batteries area, and I could feel warm there too. Immediately I took out all the batteries from camera.

When checking the posts here the other day, I tried one solution and got the lens back to close: first took out the memory card from camera, then put the new batteries in; push the on/off button with no memory card. I found the lens retracted a little before camera shut off by itself. I pushed on/off button three times to get the lens fully close. However, the burnt smell came out again. I immediately took out the batteries.
Did I get a short circuit inside? Is there any ways to fix it?

Bottom 2/3 of photo is black

It sounds like your autofocusing mirror is loose and obstructing the shutter.

Samsung Digimax V4 Power Consumption

I had similar symptoms as well until it finally died: 1) First started eating batteries like crazy, especially standard AA and rechargeables. The CRV3 seemed to work a bit longer. 2) One day out of nowhere the autofocus stopped working. I replaced the batteries and it worked again for 10 shots. Then the autofocus stopped working and battery died (with the lens stuck open). Pressing power, the LCD backlight flashes on, the LED in the view finder blinks, and the lens motor makes noise. Then nothing just stuck open. 3) Again new batteries and was able to close lens, take a few pictures and dead again with lens stuck open - same problem in 2. 4) Replaced the batteries a couple times and was able to get a shot or two off, and now its complete stuck open, even with brand new batteries - with same problem in 2 it just won't turn on. I finally sent it to Samsung the week of Christmas. I called Friday 1/7/05 to check and had to leave a voicemail. They called back Monday 1/10/05 to let me know they recieved it and that I should call back Thursday to check its status.
