Fixing a relic 15 year old square laptop, to want ends?
its junk now, the CCFL inside are useless now, too old
never spend cash on any monitor or PC with CCFL back lamps.

finding ram to fit and work in any relic PC now is not easy

yes they should do, the board should be backward compatable, as 2100 266mhz is hard to come by nowadays
SOURCE: can I install 1gb of ram on a compaq evo n610c
Yes, Memory Upgrade for Compaq Evo N610C, the Compaq Evo N610C takes the PC2100 DDR SDRAM SODIMMs to a max of 1gig - and two 512 would be perfect.
The memory modules in a Compaq Evo N610C are not located where you expect them to be.
Here's how to do it.
Open the notebook, and place your fingers on the keyboard as if you were going to type. There is a panel directly beneath your left palm, just below the Ctrl and Alt keys. The panel is hooked into the front of the frame closest to you. Using a thin flathead screwdriver or knife blade, apply a bit of pressure on the panel so that you're pushing it towards the LCD while prying it up. The panel will come right off and you'll have direct access to the memory modules.

You can try updating the bios to use the new memory or you may have to buy a different brand of memory to work in the computer. All memory is not made the same. Some work in one machine and not in another. You won't know till you try it.

I have researched this and u have but one usable RAM memory slot, the other slot is not supported on your board, suggest u use a 1-2GB in the main slot where the stick goes that u have, go the web link for memeory sticks that can fill your needs up to 2GB in the one slot.
