Your best bet is to open the unit up and read the information on it.
by modem, if you mean dialup the drivers should already be in the unit both in windows and from the manufacture. You can go to acer.com on another PC to check the drivers. Most acers run standard Conexant chipset modems but the brands coudl be different.

According to Acer they are using LiteOn or Pro-Nets modems.

Windows vista crashed. changed bios to load xp. worked. old files on hidden drive. problem is cant connect to internet. driver files on hidden drive. Now what? Try to find driver and load it?

your explanation is very confusing. your internet connection must come from a modem either directly or remotely thru router. your mentioning of hidden drive does not make sense. drivers are not part of internet connection. you need to reset the modem and router if you are connecting through it. turn everything off. unplug router and modem. after 15 seconds unplugged, plug only modem in, wait until lights stablize; now plug router power back in, wait for lights to come on;,next turn PC on. Wait until completely booted up. go to control panel click on Network Internet, when opens try to find the local connect to network. if none, then your modem is not receiving signal or IP Address from your internet provider(comcast, centurylink, whoever). check status, if active fine. if active but icon says no internet access then your router is not set correctly. you may have lost its set up and you will have to reset up your router. you should have the step or instructions for doing that. after resetting and network active, restart computer so that is receives fresh settings from router.
if no network is found after restart you may have to reconfigure your internet connect by using the internet connection wizard(control panel).

Cant connect to internet i keep getting connected with limited access

Check your modem. If it states Link or Internet active. Call your ISP and see if they see any issues.

Goto Start-> Run-> "CMD" -> enter.
Type "ipconfig /release" enter
Type "ipconfig /renew" enter.

If all else fails.

Unplug the Modem and Router.
Plug Modem in. Wait 2 mins. Plug Router in Wait 2mins. Restart PC.

I cant use my modem

The manufacturer's site is not active currently, but this should be the correct software:

You will need to sign up for an account but it is free.

Cant access internet (e-mails), possible dns error, and Domain Name Server may be down. Pinged remote host but no response

Sounds like either a cable has come unplugged/broken, the router/modem is on its way out, or your DNS cache needs to be cleared.
In this order:
Unplug the modem and/or router power cords. While unplugged, make sure the cat5 cables are connected securely(if using wired net).
Wait about 30 seconds to a minute, then plug the modem and/or router back in.

Test your internet connection.

If there still no connection to the internet, Click Ctar>Run, type in cmd, hit enter. This opens the command prompt.
On the black screen, type in ipconfig/flushdns
Close the command prompt, and re-test your internet connection.

If it still fails, verify with your ISP that your internet connection is active, and try a different router and/or modem.

Constantly blinking Activity light

Well, you are very correct with the activity light blinking and the increased blinking except the fact that modem will encounter a problem in future...
The 5 different lights on your modem namely Power, Ethernet, DSL, Internet and Activity have their own indications and explanations.
1. The Activity Light indicates the amount of activity that is takin place on the computer on the Internet though the activity might blink even when you are not browsing. This can be explained by stating that the computer constantly keep sending signals  about it being connected to the internet and any other acknowledgements..

So, you've got nothing worry about unless the Power or the Ethernet or the DSL or the Internet light Blinks....
Cause they are the resultants of a fried modem(check for the adapter), faulty LAN connections, interrupted Dsl line and the account verification failure indications respectively.....

Internet problem

Well, without any other equipment to test with, you're kinda stuck with having someone check out your PC and/or cable modem by plugging them into something else.

The good news is, a PCI ethernet card is very cheap... so if it *is* dead, you could easily buy one yourself, and with a little experience, install it into the computer too!

Otherwise, there is not much you can do without being able to test the cable modem with another computer that has an ethernet port. (a friends laptop perhaps?)
