I am at work right now looking for solution to my monitor at home. The screen is so wavy that I cannot read the text very good. My 5 year old plays on the computer a lot. And all of a sudden the other day the screen was flickering. It looks as if the screen is rippling water. Anyhow I assured all cords were in place solid and tired to adjust the htz, but there was no drop down to do so. ANy idea what I can do to fix this? I was thinking if i needed a new monitor the whole screen would be out. thanks Kelly

Connect the monitor to a different computer (laptop or desktop), to see if the problem "follows" the monitor.

Connect a different monitor to your computer, to see if the video-card in your computer is generating the "wavy" display.

Move any "power-bars" and PC Speakers *FAR* away from the monitor, to eliminate electrical interference.

Hp pavillion screen is on but screen is dark and keyboard Num lock light is on

If it's a laptop, you can plug in a monitor to see if you can get a signal there. That might tell whether the problem is the graphics card or the screen. There's a Fn/Fkey combination that turns signal on to both monitors; you may need to press that combination to use the monitor.

Screen is wavy and writing hard to read. We changed monitator

Sometimes this problem is produced because the screen is set up to a display setting to high for the monitor, and there are wavy pictures, and almost impossible to read.
Other trhan that, could be a bad monitor cable.
Hope this helps

The picture my monitor has a wavy effect and I've tried to get it back "square". What do I do?

kdoran121, Some component part has failed inside your monitor!! Possible verticle drive signal is "bleeding" into the horizontal signal is causing your "wavy effect" to occur on screen. Electronic technician will need to troubleshoot problem down to "component level" to solve monitor problem. That's my best guess on this one. You could try to swap-in a known good monitor to your pc, just to prove that the monitor is the problem and NOT your pc!!! Yes, I still have a 9 year old CRT monitor connected to another pc and if and when it FAILS, I will send it to the curb on trash-day!!! 12fixlouie

My 2 year old Syncmaster 740N often has multiple faint images behind text in any program and multiple faint desktop icons making it look "smeared"; some days worse than others; resolution is correct at...

Well in monitor you can do one thing - disconnect the monitor cable*(VGA Cable) from the tower and chk still if u have the same faint screen that means monitor gone bad if not than uninstall the Grapics Driver and shut down computer... if u have internet than restart and go to device manager ( Run - devmgmt.msc) under display adapter right click on grapics name and update driver.

Is this a MS-7184 problem? My son's computer has a wavy screen, so I replaced the CRT monitor with a new flat screen. Still wavy. Next, I replaced the onboard video card with a PCI card and nothing shows...

you need to install drivers with the new video card but first you must uninstall the old one-definately a driver issue(assuming all cables are good, etc)

Severe noise on monitor when viewing white area

Although I still have the problem to a slight extent (very slight wavering of the vertical lines going from dark to light or white) reducing the contrast from 100% to 80% seemed to do the trick. Although this monitor is on the way out, it has lasted about 7-8 years now, at least it will keep going for a while.
