Sub-Zero 690 Side by Side Refrigerator Logo

I have a Sub Zero 361 Side by side fridge/freezer and the ice maker suddenly stopped working. It still cycles, but no water is coming out to fill ice maker. I don't hear any sounds from the water valve...not even a hum when it should activate. The fridge is enclosed in paneling and is a pain to move...is the water valve accesible from inside the fridge or does it need to be accessed from the back of the fridge? Is there any simple way to test the water valve? Any and all advice is appreciated.

    361 THATS AN OLDIE
WATER VALVE IS LOCATED LOWER LEFT AT BOTTOM OF FRIDGE YOU WILL HAVE TO REMOVE 2 PHILLIPS SCREWS THAT HOLD LOWER KICK PANEL BE CAREFUL NOT TO UNHOOK THE DRAIN TRY OR THE DEFROST WATER MAY LEAK ONTO FLOOR
THERE IS A GOOD CHANCE THE WATER VALVE IS WORKING DUE TO THE AGE THE WATER INLET TUBE MAY HAVE FROZEN DUE TO INSULATION BREAK DOWN
CHECK WHITE TUBE GOING INTO ICE MAKER
THERE IS FILL TUBE INLET HEATER IF THIS IS THE CASE
THE PLASTIC TUBE THAT CONNECTS WATER VALVE COULD ALSO BE BRITTLE AND BROKEN
THIS YOU WILL KNOW WHEN YOU GET THAT LOWER KICK OFF AS WATER WILL SPRAY BEHIND UNIT
IF WATER VALE COIL IS GREEN AND BURNT OUT REPLACE ICE MAKER AS WELL AS THE GREEN VALVES ARE DESIGNED TO BURN OUT AFTER 45 SECONDS IN THE EVENT ICE MAKER JAMS (TO PREVENT FLOOD)

SOURCE: ICE MAKER SUB ZERO REFIGERATOR

Check water turned on. check ice button switch turned on in fridge. remove juice storage, ice container in freezer, check ice bucket full white plastic flapper to make sure not stuck on a white peg at top. flapper must hang down and be freely movable to signal ice maker to keep busy. If up high will turn off ice maker. Lots of other parts especially heater circuits involved also: fill tube supply heater not working then frozen supply line then no ice. Look for wiring diagram in ziplock behind compressor grille. can order parts at repairclinic.com. logical design, layout, easy to get to sensors, heaters. makes sense if look at it long enough.

SOURCE: sub zero particles in ice from ice maker

This issue occurs if your Ice Maker is not clean or have dust particals inside, follow the below steps in order to clean it properly:

Step 1 Lift the power bar located above the ice maker storage tray.

  • Step 2 Unplug the refrigerator.
  • Step 3 Allow the refrigerator and freezer to defrost. This will melt any large blocks of ice that have accumulated in the ice maker.
    Clean the Ice Machine
  • Step 1 Remove the ice machine storage tray.
  • Step 2 Dump any water in the ice machine storage tray.
  • Step 3 Wash the ice machine storage tray using warm, soapy water. Rinse and allow to dry completely.
  • Step 4 Sanitize the lines of the ice maker. Consult your manufacturer's directions for steps to do this, because it's not available on all models.
    Reassemble the Ice Maker
  • Step 1 Replace the ice machine storage tray.
  • Step 2 Plug the refrigerator into the outlet to restore power.
  • Step 3 Lower the internal power bar located just above the ice machine storage tray. This allows the ice machine to make new ice.

SOURCE: My sub zero 642 just starting making a humming

I know this sounds so stupid but I see this sort of thing at least once a week it's vibrating on cab. Or the main thing is a bolt came loss and when you open the door it aplies weight down and it will make the bolt or nut vibrate being a sub zero it could be the compresser on top or the trim or the cabinet virating on back of shell. Hope this helps

SOURCE: Sub zero fridge Mod# 642-F Ice maker

    Hi,

Make sure the arm is down, and make sure the tube coming in from the back of the icemaker is not frozen. If it's frozen, use a hair dryer to thaw out. If you see ice inside the mold of the icemaker but its' not advancing, replace the icemaker. If you DON'T see ice, then you likely have a bad electronic water valve if your unit is still getting a good water supply.

Sub zero bottom freezer stuck and will not open

ice maker could have flooded over or the drain for defrost water is blocked and water is leaking into freezer.you have to shut down the freezer until you can get the door open parcially and then melt out the rest with a hair dryer, also shut off the water to the fridge in case it's from the ice maker and then find out where the water is coming from,if it's on the left side it will be from the ice maker,if it's on the right side it's the drain,if it's the drain you can buy a heater kit,a little tricky to install, you have to snake a piece of fishing line down through the tube to snake the heater into the drain and then wire it in so the heater will keep any ice freezing in the drain again,it comes with directions part number 4202160.you might want to call in a tech for this unless you're handy fixing things, but first find out if it's the drain or the ice maker

    Ice maker stopped making ice

If ice maker is not filling with water then fill with tap water and allow to freeze. If ice maker cycles and then does not refill then this points to water control valve. If that happens replace water control valve. Ifice maker does nothing but freeze water to ice then the ice maker will need replaced or parts causing problem fixed. Please call Sub Zero at 1-800-222-7820 and they will refer you to one of their six authorized parts and service centers. Thank You, Sea Breeze

    ICE MAKER STOP MAKING ICE

not a whole lot of info to go on, so you'll have to check: your water filter if you have one; check the pressure of the water going into the fridge, you will h ave to disconnect to check; check the fill tube going into the icemaker, is it frozen/ if so, your solenoid is bad; does the icemaker cycle on its own?; are your temperatures good? if your freezer is above 15° F the icemaker wont cycle.

    Sub Zero not making ice

if this happened when you shut down the purifier system and that feeds the fridge then yes most likely the problem or when it was shut down and then turned on again sediment could have been pushed into valve on fridge, find the shut off either under the sink or in basement, loosen the nut on water line just enough to see if any water leaks out,if not no water going to fridge,if there's water there you either have a bad water valve or a bad ice maker,if that's an older subby you can use a whirlpool ice maker instead of sub zero ice maker,i think they want like 400 bucks for a sub zero ice maker, also if you had to get in there with a hair dryer before most likely the fill tube was frozen and this usually happens from a bad water valve, water leaks through the valve slowly when it's off and it will freeze in the tube,if that ice maker is over 7 years you might want to change out the valve and ice maker because the mold rots out,you can look at it,if you see any peeling inside the mold change it out, also if that has a whirlpool ice maker in it pop off the white cover, get a jumper wire and stick it in the V and L that will send power to the water valve and the ice maker should fill,if not the valve is bad,if no water is going to it the valve will buzz,if water fills stick the jumper into the T and H this will cycle the ice maker but you have to hold the switches in in the back left side if this is a bottom mount freezer or like i said before just replace the ice maker and the valve, you can google clarke and get the phone number, call them and give them the model and serial numbers and they'll send the parts to you,if that's an older bottom mount you can use the whirlpool ice maker,go here and you can see it part wpw10190965
    https://www.repairclinic.com/PartDetail/Ice-Maker-Assembly/WPW10190965/1471727
you'll find the model and serial numbers on the top hinge on the fridge door if it's a bottom mount,if it's a side by side open the freezer door and look at top hinge and numbers will be there.hope this helps and good luck.

    Ice Maker won't work

    Hello,

If your trying to save a service call you have your work cut out for you. The ice maker is a unit that sits by itself attached to the wall or part of the freezer wall.

There are many reasons why you do not get ice and I will list them.

1- Temp of freezer got too cold and has frozen the pipe that feeds the water to fill the icemaker.
check to see if the icemaker has any ice in the area that fills and makes the cubes.
If the pipe is clogged, very gently put a small tipped screw driver in the fill hose that sites over the ice making row in the ice maker. Be careful you do not push your screwdriver out the back of the refer.
Check to see the freezer temp is not too cold and is freezing that pipe. 0-3 degrees F is good.

2.- check to make sure your water feeding the fridge is on. There is an on off valve to allow the water to feed the icemaker when it needs to fill. This could be bad. there are reset proceedures for the fridge, but unplugging the entire frige for 1 minute and plugging it back in you can listen for the the valve to come on and see if it fills the ice maker resevoir.

    3. If it fills and freezes the ice resevoir, then the sensor in the ice tray does not sense the frozen ice and will not cycle and kick cubes. At this point, unless you are super tech, you will need to replace the entire icemaker unit.

    Hope this helps.
