SOURCE: how to activate time and date stamp on the pictures taken with olympus x-840
Bad News! I have had the same issue and have spoken to 3 different camera shops and they say that you can't get them on the images but that if you download the images to your computer you can click on the properties and all of your info for that picture will be there. I was bummed. Some digital cameras are available with this feature of date and time stamp most are not.

If the camera is still under warranty I would not recommend to realign the pins in the card slot yourself as you could do further damage. You might want to send the camera to Olympus for evaluation and or repair.

Olympus will charge a flat rate repair fee for this product if beyond the one year factory warranty or the warranty is voided. The cost is $107.85 plus your local sales tax. This covers parts and labor, factory cleaning and diagnostic check, 6 month warranty and the cost of shipping the product back to you is all included in that price.

You have to have the Olympus xD-Picture Card for it to do the panorama thing.
SOURCE: Olympus Stylus 1030 SW display not working after being in water
I just had a similar problem. I am not sure how it was fixed, but it works again - at least for now.
I had the camera on and was taking pictures when the screen went dark. Same as you describe, it takes pictures, flash works, LED, works, everything but the display. I plugged it into my computer with the USB adapter to see if I can salvage what is on the card and the diplay lights up. Tried several variations, but when the cable is connected to the computer (didn't have to be connected to the computer) the screen worked. Unplug, no display. I spun the settings button a couple of times. I accidentally took a couple of short videos and pictures that I deleted. I unplugged the camera and powered down again (tried that before). Power up and the screen is fine.
Again I have no idea what fixed it or why the display worked with the cable plugged in. It might have been related to the videos or some setting that I had slipped into (thought the display button never worked or changed anything).
Hopefully something in there helps or someone can explain what I did.
