I have a new GEAEM08FM 8,000 BTU ac in my window. (around 7/2010). There has been a mildew smell in my room, and when i looked inside the air conditioner (from the vent at the top), i can see the pipes inside are covered in rust and sitting in a pool of rusty water - what do i do? It does rain here in portland, OR. thanks

If it was me I would mix a strong Clorox/water solution and spray everything down leaving the Clorox water in the tray...this will kill and fungi/mold and make it smell good...

Remove exhaust hose

U need that hose to direct the warm air outside the area to be cooled. If you remove it, the hot exhaust will stay in the room being cooled and negate the cold air being directed into the room.

That is why regular room AC units are mounted on window sill. Cold air in, hot air out.

My ac window units are not draining water and creating mold in my house

Check the drain tube between the evaporator side to the back of the unit. It may have a packing plug installed. If there is one remove it or clean the drain tube.
