Starters are measured in the amps they draw under load (while turning the engine over). General rule of thumb is an amp per qubic inch of engine displacement. For instance, a Chevy 350 V-8 should pull about 350 amps cold cranking. A 150 cubic inch 4 cylinder should pull 150 amps. Disable the ignition system so the engine can not start during test. Ohms generally do not change except if there is an open curcuit (infinity ohms). You did not list the problem that is leading you to troubleshoot this way. If the starter is off the car, many parts houses (AutoZone) will test for free. Ray (garage owner)

2002 jeep cherokee laredo won't start new battery

The Jeep DTC P1491 code is actually radiator fan control relay circuit.
Soft reset if the battery disconnect would have erased the code; the first thing I would replace for that code (fan relay).
Additionally, its possible thta your THEFT system is activated, check owners manual to disarm.
Hope this helps.

Put key in.. gauges work.. have power.. wont start.. its not clicking.. i think maybe a relay for the starter, not the starter it's self.. 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo I-6.. your oppion?

I THINK YOUR RIGHT! CHECK FUSES AND RELAYS FOR POWER ALSO IF THE POWER SUPPLY TO STARTER IS NOT A GOOD CONNECTION THEN IT WILL FAIL TO EVEN TRY TO START. GOOD LUCK!

1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo It sat

Try gently tapping the starter motor with a hammer or bar. There may be a bad contact in the sollenoid or the starter motor brushes worn to their limit. Tapping may give you a tempory fix if the problem lies in the starter motor.

1991 jeep cherokee laredo won't start

you can test your signal wire to the starter by having someone turn the key to start while you put a test light on the signal wire at the stater. If there is no signal on the light then there is a problem with the sending wire from the ignition.

Finding the relay for electric fan on '89 jeep cherokee laredo 4.0

It is on the driver fender near air filter housing. Also next to the fuel pump ballast resistor. It is the white 3 inch long piece of ceramic on the fender with eletricial connectors on each end.
