I have a HP Pavilion dv9330us Notebook PC that is about 3 years old. Recently, the LCD display has developed a flicker when the laptop lid is moved. At times, a green-tinted shadow appears until a jiggle the lid to get it to go away. The problem seems to be getting worse. It appears a wire may be loose. I'm ready to take this thing apart!!!! Could the video card be loose????

SOURCE: hp Laptop screen flicker

I am sure that the issue is related to the cable that connects to the LCD Display or the LCD Backlight.
There should be some connection shortage because of which the LCD flickers few times as stated by dan231.
I Recommend you to get the Notebook examined as soon as possible before something really goes wrong...

SOURCE: hp Laptop screen flicker

Hi, i noticed that when I unplugged my HP the screen stopped flickering. I then re-plugged in the power, when to the Nvidia control settings, to PowerMizer, and changed 'ac outlet' to Maximum Power Saving.

Not the world's greatest solution, but hey, working laptop now.

Cheers,
Andy.

SOURCE: HP Pavilion dv6700 overheats & shuts down

I rebiold these things constantly and they are not that hard to keep clean. The first thing i do is remove the battery, remove all power and push the power button for 15 seconds to bleed off any stored power on the motherboard. I used compressed gas from a can that has been purified and sold ay office supply stores. Using short bursts, spray into one side of the laptop at a time starting with the ventilation grill and ducts as well as the cd tray. If you look at the cd door, there is a small black hole on the door, push a paperclip in that hole and will release the door so you can blow some air through the device to clean the dust out of it. Once you have blown all the dust, hair and debris out of it, start it up.

Now you may have to update the BIOS if you have not done so recently. HP updated most of the BIOS files for these models to make the fans run stronger and longer to help with cooling. The bottom line here is that this particular model is a lemon and the only true way to keep the processor from melting into glass is to attach a laptop cooler to that is powered off the usb port.

If you want to update the BIOS, go to the link below and put your full model number in the search box, then choose driver/software downloads. Look for the small drop down menu that asks what operating system you are using. Now choose BIOS from the list below and download the latest (newest) one. Once the download is complete, shut down all running programs and double click the downloaded program. This will start the BIOS installer. Make sure that both the battery is installed and you are on AC power when you flash the BIOS!!! Now, just follow the prompts i the program and flash the BIOS. Reboot when it is finished.

Have a HP Pavilion dv4-1114nr Entertainment Notebook PC that has flicker problem. Have to move the screen back and forward to find the right position so the screen will remain on. This began when the...

This indicates that the wire bundle running through the hinge has been compromised. Some wire has frayed apart and is making intermittent contact with itself or the lid movement is causing the wire bundle to pull on one of the video connectors.

In order to fix this problem, you will need to remove the notebook's front hinge cover & check the bundle of wires connecting the motherboard to the LCD screen. If this bundle of wires is damaged, then you will have to get it replaced.

Same problem with my zd8000 HP Pavilion laptop

what has happened with your notebook is a simple wear factor. on the LCD screen there are ribbon cables witch join the main PCB controller head to the LCD laminated portion (what you see) have begun to wear. i have just recently replaced a screen because of the same issue. try gently flexing the the screen and see if the lines dissappear. next open the screen up, and check the cable running to the back of the screen take care as to not damage anything.

HP Pavilion Entertainment Laptop Monitor flickers black

If the laptop is under a year old it could still be under warranty and if so I would get it repaired under warranty.
OTHERWISE
You could have a faulty inverter or a CCFL lamp, To determine if you have a LCD screen, inverter or video card problem, read this and follow these instructions.
Defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom: Screen flashs on red/pink and off. Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal. Picture flickering with dim display or appear black. Picture flickering on and off. All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp.
Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power the monitor up first then the laptop, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight. Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

My laptop screen is flickering

You most likely have a defective inverter that supplies high voltage to CCFL backlight. It is unlikely a faulty CCFL lamp because your laptop is approx 1yr. old.

Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
