try and assign the drive a drive letter by right clicking on my computer and choose manage.
go to disk management
look for the maxtor hard drive.
if you see it listed there below you should be able to right click on it and assign a drive letter.
if you dont see it then it doesn't detect the hard drive. please check your hard drive connections and try again.
What problem do you have with your Maxtor Shared Storage II Hard Drive?
Symptoms? What happens? What does not happen? New? Used?
Under warranty? Have you ever dropped it onto a hard surface?
Check Control Panel, System, Device Manager and make sure windows see's the connection. If you see a yellow triangle, that means the drivers are not correct. If you don't see it at all, that is a problem. Give Maxtor a call. You may need to update your motherboard bios, chipset drivers. At worst, you might have a problem with the motherboard or maxtor II device.
Just got a Maxtor Share II drive and absolutely love it. Setting it up was a pain especially when the drive didn't remember the Administrators password.
Here's what I think the problem may be
1-Your router is not assigning an IP address to the drive 2-Make sure your router is configured to DHCP IP configuration not Static. 3-Before trying to use the drive make sure to install the Software/Drivers first.
Other suggestions
This may or may not apply to you. I got my Maxtor drive on 4-07-08 and from previous experiences with other computer products, ie, windows software, printer drivers, etc. The manufacturer in order to rush things out the cd software that comes with the product is not the final version and most likely the software already has an update on the manufacturer’s web site so it’s always good to check before committing to what you get on the CD. So sure enough the BIOS for my Maxtor Share II 500Gig hard drive was already old. I downloaded the new version upgraded the BIOS and my drive is working great. I hope this suggestions help. The reason is simple, your Maxtor drive "does not" support Windows-ME. Since Windows-ME is not supported by your Maxtor drive the drivers dont get resolved and will never get installed. FYI - Windows-ME is almost 10 years old. What makes you think Maxtor will support Windows-ME?
Possible solutions.
1- Reset your harddrive using a pin through a little hole behind the drive.
2- Update the hard drive bios
3- download the lattest drivers.
