Unable to see Shared Storage Drive II on EasyManage via Wireless
Hello, I have got a Maxtor Shared Storage II which is attached to my wireless router, I am running OSX Leopard and the Mac version on the Easymanage software will not see the drive. It will see it however if I directly connect this drive via ethernet cable. Is this a common problem? DOes anyone know how to solve this? Many thanks
Re: Unable to see Shared Storage Drive II on EasyManage...
Just got a Maxtor Share II drive and absolutely love it. Setting it up was a pain especially when the drive didn't remember the Administrators password.
Here's what I think the problem may be
1-Your router is not assigning an IP address to the drive 2-Make sure your router is configured to DHCP IP configuration not Static. 3-Before trying to use the drive make sure to install the Software/Drivers first.
This may or may not apply to you. I got my Maxtor drive on 4-07-08 and from previous experiences with other computer products, ie, windows software, printer drivers, etc. The manufacturer in order to rush things out the cd software that comes with the product is not the final version and most likely the software already has an update on the manufacturer’s web site so it’s always good to check before committing to what you get on the CD. So sure enough the BIOS for my Maxtor Share II 500Gig hard drive was already old. I downloaded the new version upgraded the BIOS and my drive is working great. I hope this suggestions help. Enjoy your drive. Alfredo.

try and assign the drive a drive letter by right clicking on my computer and choose manage.
go to disk management
look for the maxtor hard drive.
if you see it listed there below you should be able to right click on it and assign a drive letter.
if you dont see it then it doesn't detect the hard drive. please check your hard drive connections and try again.
Download and install Wireshark(www.wireshark.org) on your PC. Attach the storage box and your PC and nothing else to a switch. Start a capture and you'll start to see all of the packets that your PC sees on its network interface. They will include a column for source address. The one that doesn't match your PC has to be the storage box.
If this doesn't help, connect the two devices directly together(you'll need a crossover cable if your PC NIC doesn't support MDIX and try the Wireshark capture again - this WILL work. The first option is dependent on the storage box sending out some sort of broadcast packets which is likely but not certain.
ensure that your notebook has all the updated drivers, if remote device is working and your notebook is not able to detect it. then there might be following issue.
* your cable is faulty
* necessary driver has not been installed on your notebook
work around: check above options and try
Can you log into the Storage Router? The question is, where can you see the printer? If you can see it on the Router but not on the notebook, the problem is with the Router... if the Router sees it fine, you may have a presentation problem. Let us know.
