Optio M40 turns itself off and the lens wont retract into the camera when off

I dropped it accidentally and scraped the outer rim of the lens, as well as the memory card being full, and now the camera turns itself off whenever i try to use it. I went on the computer and deleted photos so i could access the memory card but it still turns itself off so i think it might have something to do with the lens because it stays out now, even when it turns itself off, help!??

M40 will not stay open

That is usually a symptom of a low battery. Try charging the battery or replacing it.

Recently my digital camera dropped on the ground while the lens was out readyto take a photo.

you will either have to send it to pentax for repair or a local camera repair company.

I don't know any repair places in new Zealand. so you will have to ask around local camera shops or look online for a place.

Turning it off

If you are talking about turning off the camera, it should shut down by touching the same button which you turned it on with.
You can remove the battery and see if the camera will then reset itself and retract the lens.
If the lens will not retract, you have a lens problem.

My optio was dropped with the lens going down first. now my camera makes noises & the screen is black. how do i go about fixing it?

looks like the gears or retracting mechanics are damaged.

its problably not worth to take it in, to get it fixed (depends on the camera). but most likely sound like the gears are busted.

you be paying for repairs that costing waaay more than the camera.

I think my camera's stuck

I had the same problem the lens wouldn't retract and it would only stay on long enough for the logo to show...I found out my lens changed slightly cooked to oneside I gently moved the lens to center and now it works great...look at the lens and see if this helps
