I think my camera's stuck

It wont retract the lens when turned off, and when i try to turn it on, it only does long enough for the pentax logo to show up, then turns itself off again. ive tried new batteries and removing the memory card, but it still doesnt work.

I'm having a similar problem. When I turn the camera on the lens doesn't come out, the logo pops up, the camera beeps then turns off. I've changed batteries 3 times and popped in new memory cards, but still the same result. I took it to a camera shop, and they offered to try to repaiir it for a $150.00 deposit first. That's more than I paid for it. Please, someone HELP ME!!!

I had the same problem the lens wouldn't retract and it would only stay on long enough for the logo to show...I found out my lens changed slightly cooked to oneside I gently moved the lens to center and now it works great...look at the lens and see if this helps

I know these are old (a year now), but I, too, had this problem. My son dropped our Pentax Optio with the lens drum up and it stayed stuck that way, turning on and shutting off immediately thereafter. The thing eventually fixed itself after repeated opening and closing on my part, finally just closing and working normally again. I maybe helped the process a long a little by fidgeting with the drum a little, but was gentle in this. Just give it some time and don't give up so easily.

This is possibly some dirt has got into the lens barrel thus making things grind to a halt. Do you have access to a photo store or camera repair shop? I don't think there is much a normal user can do here.

My pentax option A10 turned black on the screen and won't open

Since the screen went black BEFORE the lens retracted, it makes me think this is a main board problem. The only other possibility is that it is the lens assembly, but since it went black BEFORE the lens retracted, I don't think that is it. I can replace the main board for $40, or you can send it to pentax in Arizona, and they will do it for about $90.
The main board is NOT something that I would suggest anyone try to replace as a DIY project. There are too many small screws, and delicate connections to deal with.
You can contact me at: mrfixitmark at comast dot net

If you just want to sell the camera as-is, I also buy all pentax a10, a20, a30, a40 cameras, in any condition.

Lens stuck in

You'll need to either take this to a qualified repair shop or replace. Depending on the cost of the repair (Which I would guess as significant) it will more than likely be more economical to replace.

Camera wont turn on&lens wont move

Folks,

Try to assist the machine mechanism. Turn the lenses (force is no necessary) when turning on or off. This should unlock the mechanism.
Good luck!

Recently my digital camera dropped on the ground while the lens was out readyto take a photo.

you will either have to send it to pentax for repair or a local camera repair company.

I don't know any repair places in new Zealand. so you will have to ask around local camera shops or look online for a place.

Optio 555

Hi,

Is the lens totally stuck? Does it even move a little? Did you try to power cycle the camera?

When the camera is turned on, the lens extends, makes a slight buzzing sound and then retracts and the camera turns off.

Digimax samsung s500 beeps 3 times lens stuck wont stay on

Mine got stuck with lens out. The batteries were new so I never imagined it could be the batteries, but they were cheap ones so I recharged a pair of good ones and once I put tried them on it worked just fine again. Conclusion, the "new" cheap batteries had only enough energy to turn it on and then they couldn't give it enough energy to make it work anymore and that's why I couldn't retract the lens or even turn it off properly. So in your case, try using a couple of good and new batteries.

Lens does not retract

I'm looking for a solution to this too. The repair is going to cost more than the camera did. SUCKS!!!
