Green hazy upside down arch of color across the screen

There is a green, hazy, upside down arch of color across the top of the tv screen and the directory wording is all blurry?

  • Anonymous Jun 20, 2010

Would your advice be the same if this green tinge and blurry vision appeared on a Mitsubishi HDTV 1080, model #WS-55511? I am going to assume that it would be, but I want to make sure! Thank you.

Your convergence board is in need of reworking on a component level or replacing the board! And you will most undoubtedly need to resolder the vertical IC and all ICs mounted on heatsinks on the power supply board. This TV is showing its age. You may choose to repair and that may last a year more or so! Good Luck and thank you for asking!

Testimonial: "thank you for your quick response! I am a true blonde when it comes to technical stuff but now I know enough to be dangerous and I know what to say to the repairman when asking for help!"

As for the other TV you ask about, I cannot say what the problem is for sure. If this model is one of the last of the projection sets, you can be sure there are some bad solder grounds. I do not really know this model, have not repaired one. If this TV is a DLP, it may be that the color wheel has lost its rpm, as it should spin at about 14000 times a minute. Sorry I cannot really give you a concrete answer on this HDTV. Thanks for asking, and continue to visit this website!

The coolant in between the CRT face and the focus lens has probably become discolored and would need to be drained, cleaned and refilled. The green CRT is the center one and it would have to be romoved in order to refill it.

Colors arched and overlapping

if the option for convergence is still listed under the setting section of the on screen menu, then you need a convergence power supply board. If the convergence option is missing from the menu you need the ITC222 convergence missing repair kit. You can get either one at the following link they include instructions for the repair.

Sony KP-57WS510 57 inch rear projection - Rainbow colors and arch

hi, you`ve lost your convergence ic`s, unless your very proficient at solder work I`d advise you call a tech, will require removing 2 large IC`s and possibly a few small support parts, resistors, chemical fuses etc. Every place is a little different but runs approx. 300.00 at my shop, gl, video-tek

The 3 colors are off, i have shadows and arches in the screen

It is failure of convergence ICs and these two ICs will be replaced on D board.
If you are comfortable with TV repair and know good soldering skills then can do the job easily.
Convergence ICs are mounted with sliver heat-sink on D Board of TV and part number will start with letter STK...

Arched pink lines across screen. Now green and pink double stacked wording.

Projection sets have two very common problems.

The first common problem is convergence

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get more information and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from the link below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2 - Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

Re Degaussing

Now Degaussing and convergence are two different things, if you say its degaussing then you should have just a color differential in a certain area, meaning the color should not be arched, everything that passes through should pass throu only with the changing of color. Now if its a convergence the the color may lift upward in an arch, likely separated from the other colors, Red, Blue,or Green. So now which do you think you have? Deguassing usually give you a highish green color or yellow
