I bought a Bose power supply. I can plug it into the system but not into mains. It is missing a cable like a figure 8 on its side?

This is a relatively standard 120V cord that you are missing.
Commonly found plugged into DVD players and VCRs. If you have an old DVD player or VCR, see if you can't snag the power cord from it, and use it to connect the Inverter to the outlet.
Or buy one.

I just got a blu-ray player and when I play some of the movies it will not come through the speakers. I have a surrond sound system that plays well on some movies and also plays the bonus features, but not...

DVDs have more than 1 sound track on them. That is to say different sound codings. You may well have to select the correct sound track on the dvd to suit your surround sound sysyem, this will be found in the options screen of the dvd (thestart menu).
Failing that, you may need to change the sound coding on your surround system to suit a particular film.

LG LFD790: surrond sound only DVD mode?

go to the DVD screen and hit home button, scrool to the "EZ" icon and it will say AUX or OPTICAL. Chose OPTICAL and swich back to cable and you should have sound. This will work, and no the manuel does not tell you this and most techs have no idea. Best luck

Can only get the dvd player to use the surrond system

This is going to be a bit tricky with this model, since either your Cable or Sat box will need a Digital Audio Out, and you will need to purchase a Digital Audio cable. If your sat box has a digital audio out, connect a digital audio cable from the sat box to the digital audio in on the back of the Samsung. Then connect a red and white AV composite cable from an available audio out on the back of the cable box to the "Aux In 2" on the back of the Samsung - this may only allow stereo sound, however.

Your absolute best bet (and the simplest connection) will depend on whether your TV has a SPDIF OUT or Digital Audio Out (they are roughly the same). If your TV has a Digital Audio out, connect a digital audio cable from the TV to the Digital Audio IN of the Samsung. Now you will get sound from any cable, sat, or any other type of box that is connected to your TV.

No sound

The S-Video cord is for the picture only. You must connect the audio out behind the dvd player (the red and white jack) using a double male-to-male RCA cable to the" Audio In" in the TV to get sound.
