I had a similar problem with my Yamaha DVD player which just kept displaying "reading, reading and reading"- eject-no disc or disc error. I took it into be repaired and was told it needed a new optical lense-cost $120.00 plus fitting.I was told not viable to fix. Not convinced I had a look on the internet and a suggestion given was to buy a can of Air Spray from **** Smith,$14.00 later and blowing the proverbial out of the inside of the unit-Bingo it works for about an hour and then, away we go again-reading reading reading - eject-no disc. Back to the internet and i found a DVD technician who advised the more often than not the problem is a dirty optical lense, and he has saved 100's from the grave by the following method. The most effective way to clean it is with a cotton wool bud soaked in Isopropyl Alcohol and give it a good rub without damaging it. I got the Isopropyl alcohol for $12.00 a 250 ml bottle from the local chemist and did what was suggested. IT WORKED and is still going- not sure for how long but the bonus is I can use the remainder for rubbing down my tired old body, as after shave or a refresher, in addition to fixing DVD's so not all is lost. It's worth a try considering I was going to throw the Yamaha away. Thanks to the internet and the good people who share their knowledge I am happy again.
Hopefully it will work for you. If not, don't forget the other uses for the alcohol.

Store manager suggested purchasing a new remote at $70. I requested asking the manufacturer for repair. Feedback, repair more costly than new remote. I opted for buying a new DVD player, not goodmans, for $100. Thanks.

Goodmans... • Answered on Nov 09, 2008

1. Open the tray
2. press the following sequence using the number keys: 98790 (this is equivalent to the code 9879 with the zero at the end representing all regions)
3. Press Close Tray - there should be a sign on the TV screen saying something like 'Region set to 0'
4. Turn off the DVD player for 5 seconds
5. Turn on the DVD player.

Hey cylconesid, I have answered on the other thread, but in short yes. It could also indicate that they are both protecting your circuitboard from burning out due to another problem, possibly a dying motor. The best case senario is that the capacitor was faulty, and the little vibrating thing (thermal fuse)was about to blow as the next level of protection.

Hey there cyclonesid, capacitors look like little batteries, and have a shiny flat top with perforation lines on it. If the capacitor is going or gone, this flat top begins to peak and sometimes show points of corrosion. jpe is associated with thermal fuses which are used to protect devices from excessive ambient temperatures. These are not expensive and relatively easy to replace (if required) by a professional. I hope this helps. Good Luck!

I'm sorry for your inconvenience friend, but there are no specifics on how to change the Region Code on a manufactured DVD player since the coding is part of the hardware. You can try buying Free region DVD's witch are little rare or try a new DVD player, Try selling your dvd player to some body in the UK trough eBay.

The applicable code(s) would be found in a compatible remote control.
