Laptop crashes every time I play a video game

Bought a game which keeps crashing. Was told to update the video card driver but when I try I get messages that Windows detected that my operating system was not Vista (and it is!). The driver is NVIDIA. I bought my laptop 1 year ago model 4754. What can I do so that when I play the game it stops crashing?

    if it helps, the game is Treasures of Montezuma; my operating system is 32 bit, vista home premium

    I have a new Dell inspiron 1525 laptop. I find that while playing World of Warcraft my video driver crashes alot. I redownloaded the driver but did not help.



    Is there a better driver to help with this issue. The card plays great its just the driver sucks.

Have you made 100% certain that you have the right driver. The laptop versions of nVidia cards are different to their desktop counterparts.
They use the suffix of "go" and the drivers normally have to be obtained from the laptops website.

Why is my laptop crashing?
I would try getting the latest video card drivers first, if it is a Nvida card & it has recently updated itself, I would roll back the drivers, there has been a problem with the last update & my computer didn't like the upgrade & blue screened a lot, but was fine after I rolled them back in safe mode, if the problem if not repairable via software then go to a Laptop specialist, for what its worth I think its a software issue as you say its only when playing games, but im not an expert just well informed.

By selecting the model, and your windows system.

You can also use the auto find function.

By installing a small bit of software.

Maybe your power supply is too small for gaming performance
consider to upgrade that, if the driver update does not work.
I suggest a 500 watt PSU, so the graphic does not runs out of power.

The graphic card usually crashes due to over heating. Keep the gpu cool. you may use a pedestal fan as well.

I don't quite follow the problem but, you have a low end card and maybe the game is too demanding for it. Are you having problems with crashing? Have you updated your driver? You can update the driver here:

You should always update the graphics card driver first.

If that doesn't help, does it crash to the desktop, or does it crash and shuts your computer down?

If it crashes to the desktop, then your system might not meet the system requirements of the game.
If it shuts your computer down, then you might not have enough power, some hardwares are not compatible, or that the speed of some components are too high and unstable (unstable overclocking).

However, it's just possible that the game isn't working the way it should and just needs a reinstallation.

System Requirements
With your Extensa you should be fine with the video and sound cards, as long as yours meets the 2ghz + 1g RAM, you shouldn't have any problems with the game. If you are, try updating to the latest sound and video drivers. Also, if you're sitting on 1g of RAM now, you might consider bumping it up to 2g. This will help it run smoother and avoid crashing during a gaming session.
