When I turn the set on ,it stays on for maybe 3 minutes then the screen goes black but I can still hear the sound for maybe 2 more minutes then the tv cuts off and the three lights on the center button on the front of the tv start blinking resembling a sad face. I have the AKAI DLP Projection tv model PT50DL24

Need the model number of the set and also if any lights on the TV come on or blink when the picture goes out or not.

This is a common problem and a fairly easy DIY fix. You can get the parts from www.TvRepairkits.com

This unit should still be under warranty and should be taken in for warranty service. Any attempt to access the interior will void the warranty. It is important that a complete description of the problem like you entered here be taken along when you bring the set in for service. This will insure that the servicer be able to reproduce the problem and resolve it.

From your description (and as a servicer), I would be looking for a component that is heat sensitive. These types of problems are fairly easy to locate and resolve.

Please take this in for warranty service and update this when you find out the details.

Resolder FBT pinns flyback transfomer on deflection board also CK capacitors 3 of them cp114,120,150 if anmy of them is puffewd up on top it is bad.cp150 2200uf 16v other 2 are 220uf 35v replace all 3.

loose connection on circuit board and also maybe bad caps in vertical area.

First before a reset the set must turn on, if the set just sits there with the red LED on you have further problems, so does the set display anything?
