Dirt is being trapped in the filter area instead of canister.

I have an 8 month old Eureka bagless model 5893. It recently started to collect dirt in the filter system instead of in the canister. What could be causing this?

The canister has a filter as well. It needs to be replaced or cleaned. A damaged canister filter will feed dirt into the HEPA filter. (and the motor)
An improperly installed filter can allow dirt to bypass the canister filter and collect in the HEPA filter.
I suggest a new canister filter and then clean it carefully every week.
Here is a list of the filters for your vacuum.

Eureka! I had this same problem, and after making sure the cannister was connected properly, I finally ended up removing the hose from the back (the clear part snaps right out and back in)...and there was a large wet one wrapper lodged in there. It works like a charm now!

Actually this vacuum does not have a filter inside the dirt canister. If the lid to the dirt canister is not properly on canister , causing a slight gap to form at top of dust cup. It will cause alot of dirt to collect up in the foam filter, which is above where the dirt canister is. There is a clear door that the foam

How do i clean canister of dirt devil featherlight bagless caniter vacuum

Hi there! To clean the canister or dirt cup, first remove the dirt cup from the vacuum. Twist off the dirt cup lid. Remove the pleated filter and empty the dirt cup. Tap the filter against the trash can until the dirt stops falling. If the filter is really dirty it may need to be replaced. The filter should be replaced every 6 months. I have included a link where you may go to purchase a replacement filter if needed.

Thanks! Hope this helps!

Smells hot when running and will not pick up debris I recently cleaned all filters

Something is stuck in the piping system. The passing vacuum air is used to cool the motor. It's not getting that air so it will start to over heat and smell

No suction. dirt goes into the filter instead of the canister

Check the motor and clean it properly. A very dirt motor will cause no suction or weak suction.
Be sure the motor is running on proper speed, a weak motor will cause a weak suction.
Thanks for asking.

Ho wdo I change the filter on the Eureka optima.. HELP!!! thank U !

open the canister like you are going to empty out the dirt canister. there will be a tab to push in near the back side of the machine on the lid of the dirt canister. It has a push tab at the back and a stationary tab that locks in at the front.

If you do not have a new filter handy, you can brush out as much dirt as you can with say an old tooth brush or paint brush. you will want to replace the filter on this unit at least once a year.

good luck.

When I vacuum the dirt and trash come flying out the back of the vacuum, what can I do to fix this?

The filter behind the unit is out of alignment or damaged.
so remove and clean the collected dirt, replace the filter, look for damage here to make the sucked dirt fly over.

Dirt does not collect in container....collects in filter area

Small Filter at bottom of cannister may be clogged. Not letting enough suction draw dirt down.

Dirt gets caught up in filter instead of in removable container

That is the problem with the bagless cleaners. The dirt goes through the cup, directly to the filter. There is nothing to keep them seperate. You can try putting a single layer of paper towel against the filter. It will provide a breathable barrier for the dirt but, it will clog too.

Won't pick up

try removing the 4 screws on the bottom of the vacuum and remove the gray hose from the flexible clear hose on the back of the vacuum near the bottom then take a rag and push it through the hose to the outlet on the bottom it is a straight shot it should clean it out. I did this to solve my problem with no suction on the vacuum and it worked. You would be amazed how much hair and dirt are in there. Then just put everything back together and it should work just fine assuming you cleaned the air tube behind the canister too.

My eureka 2961avz bagless vacuum has no suction

Usually clogs are in the dirt inlet by the brush roll, or in the hose. Take the hose off from the bottom and see if there is suction, if not, then the hose is clogged. If suction there, then it is lower. Also is the brush roll turning, if not, that could be your problem.
