Your Storage Device might have infected by virus/worms etc.. So before you do anything, scan with an updated antivirus. Perhaps the virus made your files and folders hidden. After you scan the Device, go open any folder - click Tools - Folder Options - When I plug it into my laptop my usb reads it but - 8366140.jpg

Click View tab - Click the Radio Button "Show hidden files and folders" - Again Uncheck the "HideWhen I plug it into my laptop my usb reads it but - def3cd6.jpgg src="/uploads/images/def3cd6.jpg" alt="def3cd6.jpg" class="h_mi" />
Protected Operating System file" - click Apply - Ok.. and see if you can see any files in the storage device. If you do so, you'll notice that the icons of the folders fade (pale yellow) and when you check the properties of the folder you'll will see the "Hidden" checked and faded, means you can't make any changes with it. It is best to move the files and folders within the folder which are infected, and delete the infected folders after resolving the problem. Reverse the process with the folder option after you successfully resolve...

I have a harddrive which has my old windows vista computer backed up,but i cannot see the files even when i have chnaged permissions, what do i do?.

the files desktop.ini are system files, most are hidden files and we dont usually see them. if you have plugged in your old hard drive into a diff laptop to read it ,then you should try unhiding files . tools.organize/folder and search options/tab up top "view" ..then tick show hidden files. if you made a backup of your files while it was in a working laptop the chances are it will hide them ( because there important ) the desktop.ini file dose not open

Konka TV model KDL26KSI8U wont recognize files on USB ports. When I plug my external drive to my TV USB port. The TV wont read. It just show NO Signal.

Hi there, buddy.
Just gonna say that most tv's still use FAT32 as their read mode, so if your external drive is NTFS, you're outta luck. Sucks to be you, unless you have a big thumbstick you want to format to FAT32, so you can copy/paste'em, and watch them like basic PVR.
Cheers from NZ :)

Lights up, makes skipping sound, wont show up on

Sadly, that skipping sound is most likely the sound of death for your external hard drive. The drive is composed of two or three disks, with read heads that hover incredibly close to the spinning disks. That skipping sound could be the head scratching the disk, leaving the hard drive useless. Your best bet is to contact the manufacturer and have it replaced as defective - if it's still warrantied.

Icon doesn't show up in my computer section so I am unable click on and access my files, however the computer a compaq presario laptop does recognize the hard drive, I just can't access anything its...

This wild mean the file system of the hard drive is set as something other than NTFS or FAT/FAT32. Mac and Linux would be able to read it just fine but due to the limitations of Windows, it wouldn't recognize the file system.
Google the program ext2read. It will enable reading of another file system in Windows.

Laptop or phone don't recognize connection

I had the same issue, however what I DID notice up on top was a USB Connected - the USB icon. I pulled that notification up and it asked me to connect. The exacts are:

1. Plug the USB cable into the computer
2. Plug the USB cable into the phone
3. The notification up top corner left will say "USB Connected" with a USB notification icon - BRIEFLY. The text "USB Connected" will quickly disappear, but the icon is still in the left corner.
4. Pull down the notification andyou'll see "USB Connected - Select to copy files to/from your computer" - Select that notification
5. Notification "USB Connected - You have connected your phone to your computer via USB. Select "Mount" if you want to copy files between your computer and your phone's SD Card." - Select the option "Mount".
6. The "Removable Disk" notification should pop up asking you what you want to do. I select "Open folder to view files".

There is a music folder in there, or whatever else you'd like.

Hope that assists.

My computer stopped reading my external hard drive

Try the drive in a different USB port. If it still fails try another computer. If it still fails then it's possible the drive is bad. If the warranty has expired you may be able to find a tech savvy friend to remove the actual drive from the case and hook it up to another computer directly. If it recognizes fine then the case is bad. If it does not recognize the drive then the drive is dead.

You won't be able to retrieve the files on the drive unfortunately unless you use an extremely expensive service. These tend to run in the hundreds of dollars.

Read only drive

Fixed it by partitioning the Drive and formatting the Partition to Mac
