I'm confused? The listed product is a Fax/Modem, not an all-in-one. It doesn't have a scan function. To send a document via a fax, you will need to scan it with a scanner (separate hardware) and then fax it. In Windows 7, a program called Windows Fax and Scan is included. If the devices are installed with the correct drivers, you can do the two steps in one program. Open the program, click on New Fax. Select Insert > Pages from Scanner (only available if the scanner was on and connected when Fax and Scan was started). Scan the document; fill in the contact information for the receipient and send. The Contact information may take a few steps since it is a Windows Contact page.

What is the process to save a document or picture scanned with my HP Deskjet F4280? I am using Microsoft Windows 7. I am unable to install any HP software for this printer/scanner while using Windows 7.

There is no need to install any software for scanning from Windows 7 computer.

It's very easy

On computer click "Start" (windows icon)
click "All Programs"
click "Windows Fax and Scan"
click "Scan" and complete the scan as per on-screen instructions there


Make sure printer is turned on and connected to computer through usb cable properly.

I have a Kodak AIO 5 printer and Windows 7. I

This is easily accomplished using Kodak AIO Home Center v5.3:

Scanning documents from Home Center
1 On the main screen, click Scan Documents and Pictures.
2 Place your original document face down on the scanner glass.
3 Select Document.
4 Select the type of document you are scanning.
5 Select a Resolution for your scan from the drop-down list.
6 Select Perfect Page Technology to automatically correct imperfections in the scan.
7 Select Next.
8 On the Edit screen, edit each image as needed.
9 Click Next.
10 Select Save to File, then select Save As (pdf or rtf), Then Save.
11 Select Done to return to the main menu.

How can I get the Windows 7 to recognize the printer as a scanner?

Currently HP has no driver for Win 7 for this product. However basic printing and scanning is possible. The procedure is explained very clearly on th HP's website.

Click here to visit the HP support page. Scroll down and you will find the instructions for scanning.

Also I have reproduced these instructions here:

ScanUse one of the following methods to scan a document. Method one: Scanning with Windows Fax and Scan
  1. Click the Windows (9e939e3.jpg ) icon.
  2. Click All Programs .
  3. Click Windows Fax and Scan .
  4. Click New Scan , and then click Scan .
Method two: Scan with Paint
  1. Click the Windows (3de3885.jpg ) icon.
  2. Click All Programs .
  3. Click Accessories .
  4. Click the Paint icon (2f86b3b.jpg), and then click From Scanner or Camera .
  5. Click Scan .
Note that the above instructions may only work after the driver is installed.

Try updating the drivers. Take this link to Hp and either enter model number and then operating system or let Hp detect your hardware and select drivers.

How do i setup the scanning part?

You can perform following step:=====

1.Insert the document you want to scan into your scanner.

2.Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, and then click Scanner and Camera Wizard

3.The Scanner and Camera Wizard appears. Click Next.

4.In the Choose Scanning Preferences page, click the Picture type option that best matches the paper you are scanning, and then click Next

5.In the Picture Name and Destination page, type a name for your image, select JPG as the file format, and select the folder where you would like the scanned image to be saved. Click Next.


6.Windows XP scans your document. On the Other Options page, click Nothing. Then, click Next.


7.On the Completing the Scanner and Camera Wizard page, you can view your scanned document by clicking the link shown. If you are not satisfied with the results, click Back to return to the Choose Scanning Preferences page, adjust your settings, and try your scan again. Repeat until you are satisfied. Click Finish to close the wizard and open the folder containing your scanned document.
