I recently updated to Windows 7 on my Acer Aspire 5500, everythinh works but my Wlan is not recognised it does not appear in my network devices and all the drivers I have downloaded do nothing? Any ideas?

Hi, 1. Try installing the driver manually via add hardware wizard and choose the wifi lan card manufacturer and install the driver. If not works then try with some other model.. 2. If you have some wlan driver, while installing it will be temporarily extracted to any location such as c:\windows\Temp. note this location, and try installin gthe driver manually and use option like "provide driver location manually option in new hardware driver installation wizard and point it to that location. It may work sometimes. I hope this is helpful to you. Thanks

Make sure all hardware is Windows 7 compatible and that you are using Windows 7 drivers. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/windows-7/en-us/Default.aspx

Initially open the device manager of the system in that you see the network adapters check whether the wireless device is listed there and drivers are installed properly.
If the driver is not installed install it by using the update driver option.ie by right clicking the wireless adapter.
If the driver is installed and not recognised properly means uninstall and update the driver.
If the wireless adapter is not found means check the bios settings that wireless adapter is enabled.

Check in the BIOS to make sure it is enabled (press F2 repeatedly during startup), and make sure that the switch (mechanical) for it is on. (Page 10 of this manual; you may want to download and save it)(http://support.acer.com/acerpanam/manuals/acer/0000/userguides/AS3600%205500-ENG-OLM_0609.pdf)

The fact that Windows 7 does not see it is indicative that it is either powered off in the BIOS or shut off mechanically.
Good luck; if you are still having problems, repost and we'll see what we can do.

NO GETTING WLAN DRIVER FOR MY ACER ASPIRIE 5500Z LAPTOP FOR WINDOWS VISTA .

Hi,

Depending on the wlan model, you need one of these drivers

Ambit
Atheros
Broadcom
Intel

As this is an older model, the drivers may not be compatible to Vista.
If none of them are working, either try to install Windows 7 (with 7 i had the WLAN already installed with windows on a travelmate 5520) or revert to windows XP, for which one of the drivers I gave you works for sure.

Acer 4720z wi fi driver on xp Os

Hi There, since Acer do no release a wlan driver for Windows XP, you need to use the driver for Window Vista. If you do not have the driver for Windows Vista, you download it from here . After finish downloading, then un-zip the file. Now let's start to install the wlan drivers. Go to your "Start Menu", then "Settings", "Control Panel" then "System", system properties windows will be pop up. Then select "Hardware" tab, and then click on "Device Manager" button. You will then see "Device Manager" windows. Look for your "Network Adapter" and you will see your wlan network adapter with red cross mark.Right click your red crossed wlan adapter, then select "Update Driver"
You will prompted with "Hardware Update Wizard" then select on "No, not this time" radio button and click on "Next" button. On next windows, select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" radio button and then select "Next" buttons.
Then another window will pop up, then select "Don't search, I will choose the driver to install", then click on "Next" button. Then you will come to this windows "Select Network Adapter", you will see you existing network adapter that do not working, then select "Have Disk", and browse to the location where you have unzip the driver. Then Select the appropriate driver for your laptop. Acer Aspire laptop 4720z come in 3 wlan varian, Intel chipset, broadcom, and Atheros and I don't know which one is on your laptop. Just try one by one if you are not sure, it's only 3 to choose from.
Hope my solution could help you out.

Wireless not working

First, go to Windows security settings. I recently had a client with this exact problem, and it was her Windows firewall blocking the wireless adapter from "seeing" anything. If necessary, turn the firewall completely off to test.

Secondly, if that doesn't fix it, remove/uninstall the Wireless adapter completely from device manager. Reboot, let Windows attempt to reinstall the driver. If asked, point it to the driver files you've already installed. Reboot, and that should fix you up.

Let me know if this helps :)

this is a pdf file with active download links. These support XP and Vista. Make sure you download XP Drivers and applications.

For your particular laptop 3 different WLAN were used Atheros, Broadcom, and Intel. Download Everesthome
this will ID internal components...look under the network tab to ID wireless lan card.
