Have you changed the needle? Do you have it inserted with the flat side facing away from you, towards the back? Double check your threading, and hang on to your top thread when the needle goes down into the bobbin area to pick up the tail of your bobbin thread. If, you do not have the manual go to www.brother-usa.com and download one for free. Click on home sewing machine support and find your model number. I suggest saving it to your computer besides printing it out, then you always have a copy. You never know how long the company will keep the manuals for free. Good luck and happy sewing

Try setting all your dials on the middle numbers, ex:# 5 if it goes 1-9.Check your manual if you have one. Check on scrap material with every project and adjust tension accordingly.
