Lost our remote. Bought a universal. However, TV is set to Video and not Cable/TV so when we program the universal, it will turn on/off and change volume but will not switch from Video to Cable/TV and hence we don't have a TV but simply a DVD monitor. What can we do

no you require the remote or a universal remote or sometimes a cable remote that has been programmed to work the volume on the tv set will have an input button .
Get your Sanyo TV codes and one by one program the into you RCA universal until you can turn the TV on and off. Find codes at Sanyo.com, the manual, Sat Manual, Vcr Manual etc.
