Phillips 27" flat tube tv

The top of the screen looks as if the picture is folded over in to the picture, many fine lines in the upper part of the picture. At the very top of the screen, about 2 inches is black.?
When I turn the tv on there is a fine blue line at the point to where the fold ends.

You have a bad capacitor. It is located near the flyback transformer. Location is 2465 and the value of the cap is 100volt 10MF @85 degrees. Substitude it with same value at 105 degrees. Have another round and a sixpack to go this evening.

PS....There is one more important capacitor to replace. I cannot remember the exact location but you will find it. Looking north of the Horizontal output transistor you will see black transistor (regulator IC) located on an heat sink near the edge of the board. The capacitor you will be definitely a 1MF. Votage is 160 or 250 at 85 degrees. Replace with an 105 Degree cap of same value. There is only one cap on the board with this value. This one will continue your start ups and by now is weak. Now finish your drink!

This is a vertical sweep problem. very common. Usually a dried out electrolytic capacitor in the vertical circuit. They are cheap parts. Just replace all of them in the vertical circuit (probably about 4 of them of different sizes).
Hope Ya Fix It.

My 27 inch emerson flat tube tv only shows the picture in a thin strip how do i fix it back to normal

You will need to replace the Horizontal IC around $80 bucks for the parts and labor. What happen here is when the Horzontal ic gives out the screen basically folds to the middle. Do not shoot the messanger here but have the TV looked at by a professional locally.

I hope this was Very Helpful to you today please leave your feedback and ratings.

Philips 27PT6441 27" TV Problem

jon5902,

Pls note that my experience is with the phillips 27" model27PT6341/07. It may not be the same board as yr model, as I can't remember nor find the service manual anymore. (browse around online for it though)

However, after taking the back off. Look close to the rca jack and svideo connection. Mine is located about an inch from the svideo connection.

Here are some pics that may help you.

The new one is the black and gold one marked 10uf 100v in the pic.
Other users have advised to go as high as 10uf 250v, to avoid having the cap overload again.

PS. I had the lines for about 2 weeks. They got steadily worse then one day my tv looked like it was broadcasting an hourglass. The lines converged in the center and flared outward (no pic).

Lines coming down from the top of screen

Those lines are beaming in from the planet Alenod. For the moment you'll only be annoyed by those lines. But when those lines finally expand the entire surface of your screen you and everything in your viewing area will vaporize. Gosh, If I were you I'd chunk it as quickly as possible and buy a 47" Vizio! They're on sell at Sams! Pleeze hurry!!

Horiz. lines across top of screen.

I agree with solution #2

I recently had my phillips 27" model 27PT6341/07 repaired after warranty expired due to white lines appearing at the top of the screen. The shop advised that it was a capacitor giving me the problem. So, after getting it back, I examined the repair job and the shop had replaced a capacitor at the back of the main board, next to the rear rca inputs. It is labeled 10uf 100v. I was told that it would fail again soon because it is a manufactures defect. For me it is at location 2465. Here are a couple of photos of the part.

Sylvania 27 inch stereo flat screen tv

This problem sounds like a short inside the picture tube itself unless a driver transistor failed that drives the red gun in the CRT. You may have to take it to an authorized repair facility if the picture tube is still in warranty.
