If the unit will recharge then you might have what is called a salt bridge in the tank. The salt is stuck above the water level in the salt tank. Poor a gallon of water over the top of the salt and see if you can then break it up. The salt should go down then.

I need to reset my clock very day as it always is slow. I lose about 4 hours very day so my recharge is always falling behind. The softener is a Culligan Mark 89

replace timer motor. Perhaps you should replace softener with a new high efficient one. Look at Home depot. I kept repairing my softener, until I decided it was not worth it. I bought an n ew one and my salt usage is about 75% less, Be sure to get a unit that recharges based on use not time. based on time is very inefficient

Culligan water softener mark 89 model 3526-82,3526-83. unit doesn't seem to be drawing brine during regeneration

Either the electric valve has failed, or the line is plugged. Try blowing out the water line first and free it up from buildup and then if it seems unobstructed, check the valve function. Salt crystal buildup is common.

My softener is a Culligan Mark 89. Water looks clear but is real salty. I bypassed the system and purged the lines to get rid of the taste.

Call Culligan for service. You have a serious problem as it sounds like your resin bed is not going through the backwash cycle before returning to operate mode.

Normally when your water softener goes through a recharge cycle, a solenoid operates to bypass the system while brine (extremely salty water) is drawn into the resin tank to perform the ion exchange process. This is a timed process. Once it completes then your softener switches into backwash mode where the resin bed is flushed with clear water. Finally at the end of the recharge cycle the softner switches back into normal operation.

This is not something that you can fix yourself. Contact Culligan immediately.

Need a seal kit for a Culligan Mark 89

Your local Culligan dealer is the only place to get one. You need the retrofit kit to prevent the shaft of sealpack from bending.

That depends on what part of the cycle water is going into salt tank. If it is the last cycle (refill) it is normal until the proper water level is reached. If it is any other cycle then the brine piston or sealpack needs to be replaced.

You should put about a 5 gallon bucket of water in first. 6 inches of water is not enough to produce the brine solution needed to fully recharge your culligan. You don't need to take out the salt at this point, just add more water into the top of the salt, wait 3 hours and manual recharge your unit.

My culligan mark 89 water softner the salt bin never is used up anymore. its been 2 months now and its still full but i hear it everynight turn on

Try cleaning the filter screen under the metal cover plate. Also check your water supply pressure. Some softeners won't run properly on low pressure.c8a54da.jpg

Have a 30yr. old mark 20 culligan water softner which still works

You should not have to adjust the brine setting. Just the days per week. The salt dosage is dependent on the capacity. If you cut back on the days used you will still need to use the same amount of sodium to regenerate the softener.

To much salt in the water

The final rinse setting may have moved, which will coincide with the salt/brine draw rate...the Culligan units have a funny way of doing exactly that, which, by the way, can generate a lot of revenue for them, if your on a salt route for them to deliver it to you!....I would look up a qualified and TRUSTWORTHY!!! Culligan repair tech, or a service manual to reset this final rinse.
