Help with settings using an external flash

I purchased an aftermarket external flash (Bower 724) for my DiMage A200. I am not a pro with cameras - and when I use the external flash in auto mode the camera is not compensating correctly, the pictures are all overexposed. Any suggestions on what settings to use?

Thanks!
Bill

His translations from the French are, in English: Control Panel (configuration panel)>Administrative Tools (administrator utility)>Computer Management (computer utility )> Disk Management (disk utility) in Storage (stockage). I. e., Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Computer Management>Storage>Disk Management.

Mille merci, dwafellman. Vouz m’avez sauvé un voyage á Office Depot pour retourner mon mémoire Flash.

SOURCE: minolta dimage g400 camera...cannot get the lens to close

Your problem is likely due to corrosion on the battery contacts inside the camera which can prevent the full power of the batteries from flowing into the camera. Try this free fix before you do anything else: remove the batteries and wipe the camera contacts firmly with a dry cloth (heavy corrosion may require cleaning with a wire brush, steel wool, or sandpaper). Remove any residue that may have fallen into the battery compartment during cleaning, then wipe both ends of the batteries and place them back in the camera. This cleaning clears the problem about 90% of the time. If it doesn't work for you, the camera may require professional repair.

Format the cards in the camera. Make sure you download any pictures that might be on the cards first. Use a card reader if necessary.

Washed out pictures using a Bower 724 AFPX flash

This is probably not the camera settings. Pentax k200D wilt only give auto-flash with just three of their own units. Sounds like you have the Bower set on Auto. Set the flash to Manual, and adjust exposure on the aperture setting with the body set to manual as well.
Note that several people have reported problems with Bower units on digital cameras (and not just on Pentax)

Nikon D80 using Bower AF 724AFN

I also purchased a Bower 724AFN to use with my D80, and experience the same problems. Received confirmation from Nikon that this flash unit is not compatible with the camera. I then purchased an SB-600 flash, and haven't looked back. It's worth the extra money for this high quality unit; fully compatible, and compliments the TTL features of the D80. I'll never deviate from original Nikon accessories again.

Added flash mount

LOLEE, I'M NOT FAMILIAR WITH THAT FLASH, BUT I HAVE SOME GENERAL INFO THAT MIGHT HELP. FIRST, IS THIS FLASH USING THE CAMERA " HOT SHOE " MOUNT? IF IT IS, ARE YOU SURE THAT THE FLASH IS FULLY INSERTED IN THE HOT SHOE? NEXT, IS THIS FLASH COMPATIBLE WITH YOUR CAMERA? YOU SEE, SOMEHOW THE CAMERA IS NOT GETTING THE INFO THAT THE FLASH IS CONNECTED. I WOULD CHECK ALL CONNECTIONS TO BE SURE THEY ARE TIGHT. HOPE THIS GIVES YOU SOME IDEAS TO WORK ON. IF YOU NEED MORE HELP, JUST REPLY.

Use of built-in flash will result in shadowing. Please use an external flash.
