GE refrigerator, ice melts in ice bin

GE profile, PSW23PSTASS, S/N VL416529, mother board P/N WR55X10156.
The ice maker bin fills with ice, but later melts in the bin, drips down into the freezer and forms large icicles. Ice cream seems to be melting and re-freezing. Also, there is frost on the outside of some other items. The built-in thermometer continues to read 0 to 2 degrees as always. I turned off the ice maker 2 weeks ago, the icicles are gone but other symptoms remain.

Solutions to similar posts included water solinoid valve (probably not as ice maker off and problem persists), bad mother board, defroster heater stuck in on position. If auto defrost please explain specific parts to be replaced.

Since your refrig is cooling , I would replace the # 4 AND # 5 thermistors . The # 4 thermistor , tells the main control board , the temp of the coils , if they need defrosted , when they are thru defrosting . This thermistor is the 1 " long , torpedo looking piece , clipped on the top left of the coils , with 2 white wires going to it . Part number WR55X10025 . It would be advisable to also replace the # 5 thermistor , located at the bottom of the freezer , slightly in front of the drain , also with 2 white wires going to it , slid into a housing . This thermistor , is the freezer thermistor , which tells the control board , the freezer temp , when to cycle off , associated with the fan speed also .

Mines doin the same thing this is a chronic problem with these units. I think it has something to do with the fan on top of the coils that brings the cold air up to the ice maker section. Seems to run a little slow or not often enuogh.Could be the fan motor, but more likely the board which powers the fan and is 230$$.Pisses me off Ken

Push the white paddle in three times slowly within 15 seconds. Then wait 2 minutes. You should see the ice maker start to cycle. If the ice maker doesn't cycle, replace the ice maker. If you need a new ice maker, you can go to the link below

The ice melts from the ice maker forming icicles down below.

Just had this same issue repaired yesterday, the defrost element was out allowing the freezer to freeze up stopping the fan which moves the air and in turn causing the upper part of the frezzer to become warm and melt the ice. This is a common problem for the GE profile and I recommend finding a service company cheaper than GE and quit letting GE make more money off their CRAPPY appliances.

If the unit is freezing well in the freezer and your ice bin is defrosting or ice is melting together it is your ice maker over filling the tray causing water to leak into the bin. You can purchase kits that contain all ice maker parts needed , it may be the ice maker and it may be the water inlet valve in the back , both come in the kit , go to sears parts on line with the model number from your unit.
