Microsoft that needs a registry tweaks. Error code means "

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Caution There can be many instances of the registry subkey that is mentioned in step 2. You must make sure that you are in the appropriate registry subkey before modifying the UpperFilters and the LowerFilters values. To verify that you are in the appropriate registry subkey, make sure that the Default data value is
DVD/CD-ROM and the Class data value is CDROM.
3. In the right pane, right-click UpperFilters, and then click Delete.
4. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the UpperFilters registry entry.
5. In the right pane, right-click LowerFilters, and then click Delete.
6. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the LowerFilters registry entry.
7. Exit Registry Editor, and then restart the
computer.

I have the same problem as the thread starter. My laptop is acer aspire 5611-300 with pioneer dvd-rw dvr-k17rs. The dvd-rw is properly shown in the device manager. No error reported. When I insert a dvd or cd the device cant read it. It makes sound, I can hear it starts turning, but then I get the info that i should insert cd. In Windowsexplorer it only shows the device as empty. Tried to reinstall driver, reinstall ide, tried the advice from microsoft with changing the registry keys. Nothing works.
sorry, forgot to mention the OS is vista premium, and i already reinstalled the system, too.
i have acer aspire 3690 but the pioneer dvd-rw dvr-k17rs ata device won't read i have try every solution the i have but still it work for a few weeks and them stop.
i have acer aspire 5634 and at first the dvd rw work fine, after a while
the DVD rw read only read some dvds i had burn before , then it can burn any dvd but can't read them.it can read cds good

My dvd is reading discs but can't burn... Problem is not detection of dvd (?), but discs can be read...
