"Windows system cannot load drivers for this tool. Drivers could be wrong or absent (error 39)".

What can I do now? Should I reinstal my system?

I have a HP Pavillion DV6700. I must have uninstalled some software that took away a key component of my driver for my DVD drive which is a Pioneer DVDRW dvr-k17B ATA Device. Uninstalling the driver and installing the driver does not solve the problem. Please help.

Error 39 displays. Message appears as "there is no drive" when I want to burn a CD or DVD. Cannot seem to install or re-install the drivers and where on the web do you find the specific driver DVR-K17B ATA Device?

When I do internal trouble shooting, message appears that "there is no better driver available than already installed on your computer". I own a brand new HP Pavillion dv6000 with Microsoft Vista.

When I insert discs into the CD tray, nothing happens and they don't autoplay anymore despite double checking all settings for autoplay.

    Any ideas?

I have a Sony VGN-FZ21E & have the same problem.

I was able to play CD's/DVD's & download software but now I can't!

I'm blaming a trojan that got in (now removed) - maybe that's what happened to others?

Cannot download software now or scan for hardware to help.

    Hello.
    I need your help.
    I bought a SONY VAIO VGN-FZ290EGS notebook.
The type of DVD/CD-ROM is PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-K17 ATA.
    I can read, but I can't write CD/DVD.
    When
I am trying to write some data with NERO , I don't know why, but
burning speed is only 2x ( is it not strange???? because DVD+R Write is
    8x max, and for DVD+R is 1x to 16x).
However, the process of burning goes normally, and in the end Nero says that the process was finished successfully.
After that, I take DVD and again put it in DVD ROM. The DVD was spoiled. And the computer doesn't recognize the DVD.
I don't know what to do.
    Please help me.
    Regards, Samvel

This worked: thanks to riozebratubo

delete the entires in regedit.exe

"UpperFilters"
"LowerFilters"

They're inside:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}]

-uninstall the driver
- restart

Vista is searching for existing drivers -> done

  • kkdloon Oct 25, 2010

This worked for me except I found the UpperFilter in [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{71A27CDD-812A-11DO-BEC7-08802BE2092F}].
I'm not sure if I needed to delete it too, but I did after I searched for it and found it in this registry folder.

You should go to the system's registry editor and erase those keys:

"UpperFilters"
"LowerFilters"

They're inside:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}]

This problem occurs when uninstalling Easy Cd Creator. You know how crappy a piece of software is when it takes away your DVD driver.

Yeah. I think when i reformatted i removed all the unnecesary bloatware that came with the Vaio. One thing i uninstalled was Roxio and some other CD software...apparently those contain the drivers for the cd drive. So just reinstall those drivers and you should get your cd/dvd back

Hi to all,
I have a sony vaio vgn-cr 35 G_L with pioneer dvd-rw dvr k17 ata and OS vista home premium. Same reported problem, is working but at three months after I bought it, was not reading all discs. Even my own photos discs that I burned on this machine I can't read anymore. Is reading only genuine discs(CD,DVD). The problem is not with the driver itself. I read that Microsoft is fighting against piracy and this "driver loose" is part of this fight. Please note that all complains on all forums are coming from OS Vista users. Our real problem is OS Vista with its included soft Star Force Protection for reading ONLY GENUINE discs, that is blocking the dvd-rw original driver and in my opinion, is loading Microsoft driver even if you will have the correct driver or is not loading any driver at all. Now I can not delete this OS due to my location but soon than I will be home I will wipe off this VISTA and I think that my dvd-rw problems would be history. At least for the moment because the guys working for Microsoft would find a way to force us to use Vista and to make our properties unusable.

  • kpotsna Mar 07, 2011

Hi mate how is your VGN CR-35 doing ? i have got excactly the same problem on the same vaio model and haven't got any solution working for my machine. The DVD RW always reads any CD or DVD as blank but can't burn any on those. After i got my my vaio factory reset , all DVD functions suddenly worked but after i updated the machine, the problems just came back again. I upgraded my OS to windows 7 but the problem has remained unsolved. If you have any solution please inform me.

If you uninstall the latest update from microsoft with the SP1 download your dvd will start working again, after I uninstalled the update everything went back to normal, I read in another forum that if you download that sp1 update then uninstalled all the programs that used the dvd player and reinstalled them ( Itunes, dvd burners, limewire, everyhitng)and he said after he did that everything was fine, but that seems like a lot of work, it was easier to uninstall update and wait for the patch for the update, can microsoft ever get anything right,.

  • Anonymous Jun 02, 2009

I had the same problem, it occurred right after windows installed sp2 and my laptop showed no dvd player with any program, I restored my laptop to the previous day before the update and it worked fine again, after that I just let windows update by itself and it has been a week and everything is fine, also in device manager open the dvd + sign and right click your dvd and click update drivers, if that does not work, right click your dvd, and then click delete, and then reboot your computer, laptop whatever and the computer will automatically recognize the player on startup and it will install again and hopefully that will get your drivers updated, do not worry about deleting the dvd player, it will reinstall all by itself, just have to reboot..thanks

I hav VGN CR24G/BNow the problem is that it show no dvd drive on MyComputer but shows yellow triangle on Device Manager pioneer DVD-RW DVR-K17 ATA device and shows error code 39 in the device status....

Try right clicking on the triangle and choose to update driver if you have the internet choose use internet this one time option, and see if it can find an updated driver.

Unplug pc from the mains and take the side panel of, check the cables are in correctly, also check the drive is set to the right jumper setting usually master.

Also check in the bios to see if you have raid capabilities, it would be worth disabling it. It is for hard drives not for removable devices.

Pioneer dvd-rw dvr-k17 problem

This sounds like you have a Virus or Some other type or Malware that has corrupted your drivers. Please Scan with Avast (http://www.avast.com/), Spybot S&D(http://www.safer-networking.org/), and Adaware (http://lavasoft.com/) all of witch have free versions.

Also it may be that your driver got corupted some othere way if it still does not work try roleing back your driver or updateing it.

Thank you,
Rel

P.s. if that does not work please come back and make sure you give the info that you have

scanned with the above and if you do not reply in this question then make sure you include all

that info with all the info you have already put here. Good Luck!

Pioneer dvd-rw dvr-k17 problem

Hi

Right click on the driver and then click Properties.
On the properties screen, check the device status and then go to the Details tab at the top.
If the details screen shows any errors or problems abt anything other than drivers, then follow the steps below to delete the upper and lower filters from registry.

Step 1: Back up the registry
  1. Click Start and and in the Start Search box type in REGEDIT and hit Enter .
  2. From the Registry Editor window, perform one of the following depending on the operating system:
Click File and then click Export File.
  1. The Export Registry File window will be displayed. Save In: should be set to the Desktop . Next to File Name: provide an easily identifiable filename like “Full Registry Backup”. In the Export Range portion of the window, make sure the radio button next to All is selected. Click Save to save an exported copy of the registry to the desktop.
  2. Step 2: Remove upper and lower filters
The steps below describe how to remove the drivers associated with the drives disappearing. After removing the filter driver keys, the CD recording software will be have to be re-installed.
  1. With a copy of the registry exported, click the plus signs [+] in front of the follow keys in the order they are listed: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE , SYSTEM , and then ControlSet . In some cases, multiple ControlSets may be listed similar to the following:
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002
    or
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002
  2. Click the plus sign [+] in front of either CurrentControlSet or the lowest numbered ControlSet. For example, in the second list above, ControlSet001 would be the correct listing.
  3. Click the plus sign [+] in front of Control.
  4. Click the plus sign [+] in front of Control.
  5. Click the plus sign [+] in front of Class.
  6. Locate the following key and highlight it in the left window of the Registry Editor (The numbers can be very similar, be careful select the correct key. Another method to find the correct key is to highlight Class, then cut and paste the key below into a Find window accessed from Edit and Find in the Registry Editor.)
    • {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
  7. With the key highlighted, the right pane will have multiple keys listed including LowerFilters and UpperFilters. Highlight LowerFilters and press the Delete (Del) on the keyboard. A confirmation dialog box will be displayed asking if the value should be deleted. Click Yes to delete the value.
  8. Repeat the process for the UpperFilters by highlighting UpperFilters, pressing the Delete (Del) key on the keyboard and again confirming the value should be deleted by clicking Yes.
  9. Exit the Registry Editor
  10. Restart the computer. The optical drives should then be recognized and available for use.
