Unfortunately if you don't have your CD key, there's no way you can make your Windows XP genuine, without purchasing a new one or installing a valid copy of windows. However, there are operating systems out there that are free to use. Linux is a great operation system capable of nearly anything. Depending on what you are using your PC for now it may be an easy and great switch. Pinguy OS is a variety of Linux designed to be easy to use for any user. All you need to do is download it and install it to a disk. Pop in the disk and restart your computer to install. If you prefer windows, now is a great time to get a genuine copy of Windows XP for a cheaper price now that Windows 7 is available, or you might even consider making the change to Windows 7. It's really a great OS! Hope this was helpful. Here is a link to Pinguy OS: www.pinguyos.com
I would reinstall xp OS... you should be able to do a restore without loosing any of your own files. After an os restore you may have to reinstall a few programs but your data files should be ok if you do the correct type of install.

If your computer constantly restarts while you are using it, or if you are trying to shut down the computer after it has stopped unexpectedly, click to clear the Automatically restart check box. If you clear this check box, you receive an error message when the computer stops responding. This error message may describe the cause of the problem. You can also review the system log in Event Viewer to view the critical stop error that occurs when the computer restarts.
Click the Start button, right-click My Computer, click Properties, click the Advanced tab, and then click Settings under Startup and Recovery.
Under System Failure, view the Automatically restart check box. If the Automatically restart check box is selected, Windows automatically restarts if the computer stops unexpectedly.
When You Boot up your screen goes in to the windows xp loading bar and after a quick blue flashin screen pops up and it restarts unfortunately this is what they call the Blue Screen of Death so more than likely you harddrive with the os is corrupted so either you will need to reload the OS or by a new harddrive and load the Os on that Harddrive
