If you are so sure of three wireless networks in range then it could be the HW problem in the laptop. Is the green light indicating WiFi lighting on? May be your WiFi switch is non functional. So switch on the WiFi and then look for LAN. Login and not searching a LAN are two different problems. If you cant search the wire less LAN then how can you log into any. So it has to be HW problem as you cant locate any although there are three available. So start at the WiFI switch.

I have an Acer Aspire 5552. It is unable to find any networks. wen I troubleshoot the problem, it tells me te wireless capability is turned off. I have tried Fn F3. it is still giving me the same error....

hi there.
Try this 1

1) Click on start --> In search bar, type ncpa.cpl and press Enter.

"Network Connections" will be opened.

2) Right-click on your "Wireless Network Adapter" --> Properties -->

Select "Internet Protocol Version(TCP/IPv4) --> Click on "Properties"

button --> Make sure "Obtain an IP address automatically" is selected

--> Click on OK --> OK.

3) If the problem still exists then check your SSID and the wireless password.
Function F3 no longer turns on the wireless on my Acer Aspire 5253 laptop.
Do you receive any message or code while turning on wifi?
There is a tiny switch on the side of the laptop (on in the front) that turns the wireless ON/OFF. Make sure you've switched it on.
Method 1: Run the network troubleshooter and check if it fixes the issue:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Using-the-Network-troubleshooter-in-Windows-7
Method 2: Do the following to change the wifi settings:
a.Click Start, type network and sharing center in the Start search box and hit Enter.
b.Click Change adapter settings.
c.Right-click the connection and select Enable.

To know more about how to "Set up a wireless network".

if none off the above works try this link out as well.

How to setup up for repeater mode

This particular Hawking device must be configured after it is connected to your LAN and powered up.

Before you can do this, you will need the software from Hawking. If your devices Serial Number begins with HEMCHWREN1 use the link below"

http://hawkingtech.com/products/downloadfile/114.html

If you have a Revision 1 device with a Serial Number begins with HEMCREN1R1 use this link:

http://hawkingtech.com/products/downloadfile/117.html

Once you have the software, here are the steps you need to follow:

  1. Connect the A/C power adapter to an
electrical source, and then connect it to the
'Power' socket of the Range Extender.
  2. Connect your Range Extender to a LAN
port on the Router or AP that you would
like to extend (repeat) the range on.
  3. Connect your PC to any of the LAN ports
located on the back of your router/AP.
  4. Now run the appropriate program you obtained from the instructions in the beginning of the answer.

When the auto-load page appears, click the Setup Wizard option on the right and follow the Setup directions.

Scan for your Range Extender by clicking the 'Search' button. Once found, click the device to highlight it and click 'Next".

Choose a name for your Range Extender. You will use this name to identify and connect to your extended network. Optionally, you may change your login username and password. Click 'Next'.

At this point, the Setup Wizard should automatically obtain a new IP address for your Range Extender from the Router. Please wait for this IP to generate into the IP address field. Note the new IP address and click 'Next' to continue.

In the Search box, find the Wireless Network that you would like to extend. This Range Extender works best with other wireless-N networks, but also supports wireless-B and G networks as well. Select your preferred network and then click 'Next'.

For Security Settings, you must make sure that the Range Extender's security settings are identical to that of the Router/AP that is having the signal extended. If you do not know these settings please contact your network administrator.

At this point the Setup Summary displays all configured settings of the Range Extender. If the information displayed corresponds to your desired networks settings, you can go ahead and click 'SET' to apply the settings. The HWREN1 will automatically reboot. Please be patient.

More information can be obtained on the hawking site:

My computer will not automatically configure my wireless connection even tho it is set to do so automatically. I have to manually tell it to look for connections each time I boot up

open wireless connections and delete the network settings completely then set it up again, you have manually disconnected from the network at some stage which is why it doesn't auto connect each time. To delete the settings you need to go into advanced settings, as you dont say which windows version you have i cant give specific instructions

Is there a manual shut off switch to disable the wireless search mode on an Acer laptop?

I assume you want to stop vista from automatically connecting to wireless networks other than yours.......try this:

Open Network and Sharing Center, click Manage wireless networks, click on your "home" network & make sure that Connect automatically when this network is in range is checked. Now do the same for any other connection that is listed but uncheck the Connect automatically when this network is in range.

Go to Start > Network > Network and Sharing Center
click Manage network connections under 'Tasks'
Right-click Wireless Network Connection
Select Properties.
In the Wireless Network Connection Properties dialogue box, click the
Wireless Networks tab.
Select other wireless network like "Y5ZONE", "PCCW" and click Properties
Click Connection tab
Uncheck the box "Connect when this network is in range"

Hope this helps.....
