We bought a Dimplex DAC 12005 portable air conditioner last summer. It was floor stock and the salesperson promised to send us the instruction manual, but never did! Do you know where I can get one, or if not, can you help out with this specific question?
We're not sure whether the drainage hole at the bottom should be plugged up or not when in use. There is a container to catch the water and a pipe that comes with it, so we've been using this to 'catch' the water when the unit is in use, however we're finding that the water is just spilling out under the unit.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

Hi Leanne,Bung stays in and you dont take it out until the red light (4th on right on top of unit) comes on, then you empty it taking bung out and use tube to get the water out. It will probably take some time (days of continuous operation) for the light to come on, depending on your humidity etc. For easy emptying, wheel the unit to a bathroom or outside where if it spills a bit it won't matter.
Ours is working okay although it just stopped blowing cold air and is only blowing room temp air. we have guests tonight and its hot! I came here looking for a solution to my prob and found yours!

Leanne,
I found the manual. It needs water to go over its condenser to work. Generally, it gets it internally by dehumidifying the air in the room. That's why you need to leave the bung in. It has a 800ml tank and it will need emptying when this is full (that is, it makes more water then it needs in a humid environment and the light comes on red when its full - how long depends on your environment.) The opposite can happen (as it did here tonight) and the humidity was so low that it couldn't make enough water and it just blew room temp. air. This was fixed by pulling out the little draw above the bung at the back and adding about 400ml of water to get it going. it's going like a champion again now! Hope this helped.

Generally, air conditioners should operate in a way that causes them to use the condensed liquid as a condenser coil coolant and then reject it outside. The problem is that if the unit is inside the area you're cooling...you're going to recycle that water back into the very same air you took it out of. So...if the unit exhausts air outside, plug the hole. If not, then don't. Watch for flooding! Put the unit in a tray, if possible.
