My 100 MB Zip drive accepts a disk, tries to spin up, but never becomes ready. The computer thinks that the drive is busy, and eventually times out. I've tried several removable disks, but it behaves the same. The diagnostics indicate that the drive is OK. Any thoughts?

Can't get computer to recognize zip drive

Steve, The 1st thing is to install the correct driver for the 100 on the computer you are using. Is it a Mac or PC? What model of computer is it. I have been able to use the Zip100 disks with an older IIGS and some older Macs (Performa and Mac SE) with no problems. I have had no experience with the PCs. The disks formatted as FAT16 or FAT32 can be read by both Mac and PC. Those formatted for the PC can also be read by Macs if PC Exchange is installed. Mac disks cannot be read by a PC.
Write back with more info to clarify your exact situation.

How do you get a disk to pop out of a iomega zip 100

Hello.

If your iomega drive is connected to your computer, open My Computer and right-click on the Zip disk drive icon and choose the option to eject.

If unsuccessful, or the drive is not connected to your computer, remove the disk manually. Look for a small hole or lever. If a small hole, use a straightened paper clip and push into the hole to remove the disk. If a lever, lift and pull backwards.

Hope this helps.

I had a computer with a slot for reading iomega ZIP 100 disc. My new computer does not have this. Is there a device to read my zip dizc and send the contents to a USB port?

IOMEGA make a USB ZIP drive that reads and writes 100 and 250 Mb disks. Don't know if this is available any more, you might be able to pick one up 2nd hand.
If you still have your old computer, try networking your old and new computer together so you can transfer data from the ZIP drive on your old computer to your new one.

Iomega zip port

First of all, make certain you are only using 100 MB disks in a 100 MB reader.

If the problem is more complex than that, I have several questions:

Can you read different disks?

what type of connection is the zip drive using with the computer? USB?

does the zip drive need an external power supply?

will the zip drive successfullly read disks when connected to a different computer?

does the zip drive appear under my computer at all? even as an empty drive?

what operating system are you using?
